Photoshop CC 2019 Interface Changed

So I started up my photoshop today (PS CC 2019) and it looked completely different from the last time I had used it. It looked like older versions of photoshop, with a light background and documents hovering in their own windows, not in tabs across the top. My brushes and workspaces are all still there, but extensions I have are not. When it booted up it didn't go to that "home screen" showing previously worked on documents either, it just skipped right to an empty workspace. There is no option for me to click on those previously worked on files at all. The default documents are not my previously used canvas sizes either, those do not appear.

Some of these things I can fix in settings, but I still have no idea why the change happened in the first place.

So my question is, what's going on? Is this an update I missed and can't find any info on/part of the original 2019 update that isn't showing till now? Did something get reset completely? Is this a problem with my account? I really don't know what happened and I'd just like to know why it all changed.

Go to Edit > Preferences. All these options are set there.

Incidentally, you're describing how a lot of us prefer to set up Photoshop. The light interface gives a much more reliable impression of how the image will actually look like in print. And floating windows makes it much easier to jump between several open images.

Not to mention the start screen. Don't rely on the recent files list in the start screen! They are not actual live links. If the file is moved, the start screen won't find it anymore. I'd strongly advise making a logical folder structure so you know where your files are actually located on disk.

It almost sounds like an old hand experienced user borrowed your Photoshop for a while 😉
