Photoshop CC type tool is not typing in the box! Not editable and very frustrating

The text appears outside of the text box.

I've already had an online chat with support this morning but it's not resolved.  I saw that the latest update should have resolved this but the problem has only just started for me.

Are you typing white on white. We can not see your Photoshop UI in what you posted????

Thank you for responding.  No it's black on white, I've used the type tool for years.  I did get assistance from Support again who found a problem in the properties field, something had got corrupted.
