I've just spent 5 hours with Adobe support on this one to no avail. (They were very helpful and we've eliminated some things but I needed a break so thought I'd ask here!)
The hardware/softward involved are: iMac running OS 11.6.2, the latest version of photoshop cc and a Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-300 Inkjet Printer with up to date drivers.
Until today all worked well in terms of photoshop/printer colour matching until the latest mac update yesterday (presumably this was from 11.6.1 to 11.6.2 - it was an auto-update so I'm not sure) Since this mac update the colour matching between photoshop/printer has gone awry with images washed out/incorrect hue/saturation. It appears that the mac update has deleted/altered a number of PS preferences that worked perfectly well beforehand (a few saved preferences disappeared too).
In terms of troublshooting completed so far..
* Other applications on the mac have no colour matching problems (e.g. I ran a test using Keynote/Pages) so this is an issue purely with Photoshop.
* Photoshop on my laptop (an older OS version) prints fine on this printer so it is the combination of Photoshop on this version of iMac software.
Has anyone had a similar issue or know what is going on? I've run out of ideas.
Steve

Hi Steve,
We're sorry about the trouble with Photoshop color printing issues. Would you mind sharing the exact version of Photoshop you're on?
Try pressing & holding this Spacebar on the keyboard while selecting the option to Print from the File menu. This will reset the Print settings in Photoshop.
You may also try resetting the preferences of Photoshop by: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html
Backup your preferences before resetting by: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#BackupPhotoshoppreferences
Let us know if that helps.
Regards,
Tarun

Hi Tarun,
Thanks for your quick reply.
The space bar thing seems to have made a difference and the colours are much more similar to before the problem. However it reverted to the washed out colours when I tried it for a second time without the space bar. Is the space bar a temporary work around? Even if it is, it suggests the issue is with the print settings changing.
I haven't yet played with the preferences as I wanted to check above first.
for info it is v 23.1.0. of PS

There is a bug with Mac OS 11.6.2 with ICC profiles not being used/found. That might be your issue. This has been reported all over the various forums.
Best to go back a version or move foward to 12.X; that Apple OS bug was fixed.

Ahh thank you. I suspected as much but couldn't find anything about it.
will update to 12.x and see if that fixes it

Hi
There is a bug in Mac OSX Big Sur 11.6.2 in connection with ICC profile use,
some users have reported success after updating to Monterey, personally I'd be more likely to go back a version rather than jumping into a new OSX version.
I hope this helps

Thanks Neil.
I've made a bit of progress. Holding Space whilst printing seems to bypass the issue temporarily but isn't a permanant fix.
On speaking with Permajet (paper suppliers) they said they've heard loads of issues from different people. They suggested the bug is that when OSX updates it also reverts the Cannon printer driver to the wrong version which causes colour mismatching. Today I'm going to experiment with updating the driver to the version they suggest to see if that fixes it.

Steve, please keep us posted, plainly if a print driver is updated in a way that alters appearance, then icc profiles made with another driver version will fail to give accurate print.
Colourmanagement can only correct consistent inconsistencies.
I hope this helps

Hi Neil,
It seems to be resolved. What it seems happens is that with each OSX update the Canon driver reverts to the standard apple driver which, as you say causes all sorts of colour management issues.
The printer was defaulting to an apple airprint driver in the background. By downloading and reinstalling the latest Canon driver it has resolved the issue. Not done extensive testing but this all makes sense.
Thanks to everyone for their help on this thread.

Good to know thanks, that damned Airprint driver pops up in issue discussions with regularity.
