photoshop converts pantone color to cmyk

When importing a file using Pantone colors in Photoshop 25.1.0 it converts colors to CMYK. I am not able to see a way to prevent this and leave the colors intact.

What type of file? What is the file format/extension?

Is the file raster or vector or both?

I presume that you actually mean open, not import.

When converting Pantone colors to CMYK in Photoshop, you can follow these steps:

  1. Open your document in Photoshop.
  2. Select the object or text with the Pantone color you want to convert.
  3. Go to the "Window" menu and select "Swatches" to open the Swatches panel.
  4. In the Swatches panel, you should see the Pantone color you've used in your document.
  5. Right-click on the Pantone color in the Swatches panel and choose "Convert to CMYK." Photoshop will automatically convert the Pantone color to the closest CMYK equivalent.

Please note that the CMYK values may not always be an exact match for the Pantone color because Pantone colors are specially formulated spot colors, while CMYK is a subtractive color model used for printing with standard ink combinations. The converted CMYK values should be a close approximation to the original Pantone color, but there may be slight differences in appearance, especially for very specific or vibrant Pantone colors.

Always consult with your printer or production team to ensure the color accuracy of your design in the final output, as the appearance of colors can vary depending on the printing process and materials used.
