Photoshop Crashes when using rectangular marquee tool

My Photoshop also crashes when I use the marquee tool. I've tried everything from preferences to fresh install. Brand new laptop. So frustrating given how much this product costs.

I'm having the same problem and went so far as to cancel Photoshop subscription. GIMP hasn't been able to do the job  so I'm back to troubleshooting Photoshop. It worked fine on my old laptop. My new laptop is a top-of-the-line HP Pavilion. Very frustrated.

I have this problem also, PS locks when using the rectangular marquee tool.

I have received a message to update my graphics card Intel HD 4000, will this help the problem?

What version of the card should I upgrade to?

I have the same issue, my photoshop is essentially unusable. Whenever I use the square marquee tool and deletes something using it - Photoshop just freezes and I have to close it using the task manager. Running Photoshop 2023 24.0.1 release.

This is crazy - get it fixed, Adobe!  I'm sick of it crashing. 

I'm having the same problem since installing the latest version. Previously PS hangs were fixed by unchecking 'Use Graphics Processor.'  Not so this time round.

My PC is getting on in years, so perhaps its no longer fully compatible, although so far no other tool causes PhotoShop to crash. Even stringing video files together works perfectly well. If I need to revert to the previous version until I can upgrade hardware then so be it, but would like confirmation first. Pasting System Info here. Thanks in advance /Ed

I've been having this problem for about a year now, just switched to 2023 version and the problem still exists. Resetting preferences on quit helps but it's only a temporary fix, and it's also annoying to reconfigure all of my lost settings afterwards.

What Mac model are you running on, how much RAM is installed and available, HD space, your scratch disk space and what is the graphics card?

I have the same issue, on top of other issues with PS, like not being able to use Liquify unless I uncheck "Use graphics processor" I've been using PS for 10 years and this only started happening a month ago. I'm ripping my hair out because it adds so much time to my retouching, simple tasks take forever because I have to keep saving files after every step and then restarting PS every time it crashes. I am paying for product that my company can not use effectively. Shame on you Adobe.
