P: PS 26.11 Depth Blur Neural Filter: We've temporarily disabled this filter because of an error

In Photoshop 26.11 on Windows 11, the Depth Blur neural filter is broken. It refuses to do anything. It just puts up a message (at the top of the filter panel) saying the filter has been disabled due to an error.

I reverted to 26.10 and the filter works in that version.

There are currently issues with Depth Blur in Photoshop 26.11.0 and 27.0.0 Beta.
It works in Photoshop 25.12.4, so please use that temporarily.

I am not the only person seeing that Lens Blur filter is not working - https://tonykuyper.wordpress.com/

I help test the TK9 panel and Tony asked me to check depth map issue when he hit problem on beta 26.12. I confirmed that there was issue and that underlying Lens Blur filter was the culprit. I reverted to 26.11 and then 26.10 and found issue came in with beta 26.11.

Tested on 26.10 just before updating to 26.11 and it worked, and then didn't work after the update.

I suggest you fire up Photoshop 26.11 and check for yourself.

So far no response to Adobe from the error report that Tony Kuyper submitted several weeks ago.

Claire, there are multiple reports for 26.11 breaking Lens Blur neural filter. See comments on 26.11 announcement post. Happens on both Windows and Mac. None of the suggestions other than going back to 26.10 have worked. I do wonder why Adobe don't just try for themselves.  Open 26.11, load image and click on Lens Blur neural filter, on a Mac it will hang half way through processing on local device as in screen shot. Still exists in latest beta of 27.0.

I've been looking for people that had the same error for a few days now. "Glad" that I was not the only one. I tried re-installing Photoshop, my video drivers, everything. Now it seems it's just a problem with the latest version. Installing 26.10 solved it all.

Yes, that seems to be the only working solution, to go back to 26.10. Did that and it works again on MacOS, too. So it's definitely an issue with the update and nothing else.

Same here. v26.11

Blur just freezes up at about 25% processing.

Tried updating to the beta versions also, latest being v27 and exactly the same.

Then went back to 26.10 and worked like a charm

Needs sorting out as I use depth blur often.

Hello nikunj, thanks for the reply. I switched back from version 26.11 to version 26.10 because I was experiencing issues with some tools in version 25.11.
I won't update to any other version until the problem with the Intel® driver is resolved. Currently, PS runs slowly without GPU support, but reasonably stable, allowing limited work.

@ingof51986516 that actually is very telling. If PS is running (albeit slowly) when you disable the GPU setting, that means the issue is with your GPU. Be aware that disabling GPU will cause issues with any tool or process that requires a graphics card, no matter the version.

The GPU preference is disabled in both Camera RAW and Photoshop's performance settings. This doesn't cause crashes in Photoshop itself. However, Camera RAW occasionally crashes, especially when using multiple masks, such as "Landscape Masks."

It's also noticeable that the Task Manager shows high GPU usage for AI applications in PS & LR, even though GPU usage is disabled in the applications.

Another issue concerns memory usage: Even with small, simple projects or files, the RAM usage in Photoshop and Lightroom is between 70 and 90%, despite 64 GB of DDR5 RAM being installed. With the original 32 GB DDR5, memory overflows and system crashes regularly occurred after a short processing time. Only after upgrading to 64 GB was it possible to work reasonably stable.

I consider this behavior unusual, as many comparable systems can easily operate with just 16 GB of RAM.

I'm currently temporarily working on a 12-year-old ASUS computer, which is very slow but much more stable.

@ingof51986516 Ive noticed you have not tried a clean uninstall and reinstall of the application. Perhaps try that and see if a fresh install (do not keep preferences) may help.

Many users report the same problem: Neural Filters have been broken since 26.11. How to reproduce the error? Just try using Neural Filters. I believe it is the responsibility of Adobe engineers to investigate and fix this issue - please don’t shift the burden of detailed reporting or screen recordings onto users.

Hello, I just performed a clean reinstall (PS version 26.11).

Unfortunately, the problem with the tools (Remove and Depth of Field Blur) still persists.

Error message for the Remove tool:

Message 1: Tool cannot be used because activation failed.

Message 2: Unfortunately, the operation could not be performed because a program error occurred.

Error message for Depth of Field Beta: This filter has been temporarily disabled due to an error.

It is still noticeable that the Task Manager shows high GPU usage for AI applications in PS & LR (e.g., denoising, landscape masks),
even though GPU usage is disabled in the applications.
The RAM usage for simple image editing was at a maximum of 68% of 64GB RAM.

As a test, I enabled the GPU in PS version 26.11 and edited an image with AI applications (denoising, landscape masks). The program didn't crash, but I didn't notice any improvement in speed either; denoising a photo took about 34 seconds.

Neural Filters in Mac not working and sometimes not loading in Photoshop 2025 26.11. Uninstalled and installed Photoshop, and it does not solve anything. The filters are there but they do not work and sometimes they do not show up. I will appreciate any help. Thanks

Thank you all for taking the time to report and confirm the issue. We’ve received multiple consistent reports across both Windows and macOS, and the product team is actively looking into this.

In the meantime, if you rely heavily on these filters, the most reliable workaround is to revert to Photoshop version 26.10 using the Creative Cloud Desktop App:

• Open the Creative Cloud Desktop App

• Go to Apps > All Apps > Photoshop > More actions (•••)

• Select Other Versions

• Install Photoshop 26.10

This version has been confirmed by several users to restore full Neural Filter functionality.

We’ll post an update in this thread as soon as a fix or further information is available from the engineering team.

El filtro de desenfoque de profundidad de neural filters no funciona, me aparece el mensaje de"hemos desactivado temporalmente este filtro debido a un error" , YA HICE TODO LO QUE SE PODIA HACER, 

-he actualizado GPU Nvidia studio driver. Tengo el nvidia GEFORCE RTX4070.

- He reinstalado photoshop de forma limpia

- He borrado la carpeta de nf y plugin data

- He limpiado preferencias y cache. 

Aún asi el error persiste. Mi versión de photoshop es 2025 y mi sistema operativo es windows 11 Pro. Nunca antes me habia dado problemas, todo parece correcto en cuanto a tarjeta gráfica. 

No se que más puedo hacer 😞

Hi!

I’ve been trying to use the Noise Reduction option under Neural Filters/Photo Restoration in Photoshop, but it’s still not working for me. I’ve gone through all the recommended troubleshooting steps — updating Photoshop and my GPU drivers, clearing the PluginData cache, resetting preferences, testing in RGB 8-bit mode, disabling plug-ins, and even reinstalling both the Beta and non-Beta versions.

Despite all of this, the filter never works. Instead, I get the message:
“We’ve temporarily disabled this filter because of an error.”

At this point, I’m not sure if this is a known bug, a compatibility issue with my system, or something else. Could you please advise on the next steps, or let me know if this feature is currently unstable?
