Photoshop CS6 suddenly a trial version of Extended.

Launched Photoshop CS6 this morning, and suddenly it is a trial version of CS6 Extended. I did not ask for this, I do not want this, I bought, paid for and registered the regular version on the day it was released. I am not renting the software via that stupid creative clod thing, I bought it the regular way. What is happening here? Is this going to happen every time they release a minor update? How do I make it go away?

Today we released Photoshop update version 13.0.4 (for Mac perpetual customers) and version 13.1.2 (for Creative Cloud members, Mac and Windows), resolving this licensing issue:

How to get the Update

1. In Photoshop, choose Help > Updates.
2. The Adobe Application Manager will launch. Select Adobe Photoshop CS6 and choose Update.

I have had Photoshop CS6 since August. It was activated and running fine. I installed the 13.0.3 update and then didn't start PS for a few days. The first time I launched it after the update I was greeted by the dialog telling me I have a trial version. Now, I can click the "License This Product" button and go get the license and put it in but it is a pain. It appears to keep the activation information for a calendar day and then clear it. I hope this doesn't last long enough for me to memorize the serial number

I wonder if Adobe is working this week? Large companies often get the week off...

For me its 25 days left on the "Trial" of all of CS6 (which I own, really!).

btw, this affects ALL CS6 apps for me (master collection), not just PS.

Would you mind linking me/us to Berry Young's hints?  This situation really is inconvenient...I"m both glad and sad that it's not only me; I hope we can all get to photoshopping, illustratoring and indesigning PDQ...

thank you!

Only 7 days left on my Design Premium suite, and no posts from Adobe employees here since the 29th. What is going on there? Is it too much to expcet professional communication and service??

Thank you, smei_ch, right on the nail's head.

Not even one word of acknowledgement.

They created and call this "Adobe Community > Adobe Photoshop > Photoshop General Discussion > Discussions"

but where is the Adobe in Adobe?

Their engineers did a great job.  Photoshop is a great program.

But the administration team leave us with an impression that their attitude has a lot of room for improvement.

Nothing wrong.  Our children are like that.  They don't return phone calls.  They don't keep you up to date.  They don't tell you what they are up to until they need money, then it's mom, dad, eh, blah...

Yep, our trial copies are running out of time soon.

I hope that Matt Kloskowski, Corey Barker, Pete Collins's copies are all turned into trial copies and run out of time.  Then, I wonder if the indigestible will hit the fan...

We are making progress on fixing this issue. As a few people on this thread have mentioned already, Adobe engineering is off during the holiday break, which made it challenging to make significant progress on this between Christmas and New Year. I'm not coming up with excuses - I just want to be as transparent as possible so that users know where things are at.

We are aware that for users who started the trial on Dec 11th that it will end in the next 7 days. We are working as quickly as possible to release an update that fixes this issue in time before the trial expires.

I'm sorry for the inconvience, but please be patient for a while longer until we can get a fix released.

Great.

so, if we want to actually use our software we have to go along with this trial period malarkey? or, do we have to re-install from scratch and simply not upgrade until the fix for this is in?

inquiring minds want to know..

Thank you, Mr. Young, you are totally above and beyond.  Adobe owes you a big bonus for your courage.  I hope you won't get into trouble with your boss.  Again, thank you.  Keep up with the good work.  Take your time, now that you have bought it with your head.  We will wait, just to give you face.

btw, if your boss gives you a hard time for standing up, tell him I told him to shut up.  My name is Eddie.

Hi w,

You can use either solution for now. If you don't want to deal with the trial license showing up, then re-installing the original 13.0.0 version and only updating to the 13.0.1 version is the way to go.

regards,

steve

This is a very nice drop of honey.  Sure it will catch a lot of flies.  Thank you.  Keep up with the good work.  Your wife (or girl friend) will confirm that there is no worse feeling than being ignored.  Don't do it.  She hates you 10X more.  But then, we still love Adobe.  We really do.  Hug.  Happy New Year.  Thank you.  Cheers.  Bottoms up.  ❤️

Good morning. I did it, as you recommended and it worked. But now this morning the application manager advised me to update to 13.03 .... what do I have to do now? Ignore it and wait and then what?

Can anyone answer this? If one goes along with the Trial Software signup, do you, at any time, have the option to enter your code and then be done with the whole mess? IOW, would that be the easiest, most hassle-free method of "moving on?"

wkjeiwoi, I hope I understood your question correctly, especially what you meant by "enter your code." I entered my code (serial number) and PS worked fine for the rest of the day. That is, I could close it, re-launch it and it did not revert to trial mode. However, when I launched it again the next day, it reverted to trial mode. So, unfortunately, wkjeiwoi, that won't let you move on.

Dwyer,

Yes, I think you do understand what I'm getting at, and RATS that it doesn't work. And to be clear about what I am thinking here, it is this:

With most (all?) commercial ware with a trial period, you can, at any time, purchase a key, enter it, and be blissfully on your way as though you had had your key from the very beginning.

Sounds like this updater borks that whole relationship so that every time you quit, Adobe "resets" itself to Trial Ware.

Since I personally don't want to keep jumping through that hoop,  think I'll opt for the re-install.

Well, inconvenient as it is for us, I'm sure the Adobe people aren't having much fun with this, but I am glad there's a way out.

Question for Barry and Others...the KB link you provide suggests that re-installing Photoshop alone is the fix (for those who choose the re-install method of dealing with this)

Is the corrupt license file problem limited only to Photoshop? Because I encounter the same problem no matter which CS6 App I launch...

Please advise/clarify.

wkjeiwoi, yes, it is unfortunate that doesn't work.

To be clear, PS doesn't appear to revert to the trial version after every time that you close it. PS seems to revert based on a calendar day's passing. So if you put in the license in the morning today, you can blissfully use it without having it revert to a trial for the rest of the day no matter how often you close and re-open it. For me, anyway, it doesn't revert until the next day.

So, for me, the way to deal with this that is least painful seems to be to use it as a trial version until it gets down to one day remaining, then enter my license and it reverts back to a trial version with 30 days remaining the next day.

Good to know...and to add data, I just completed the re-install workaround. Launched all of my newly-installed Adobe Apps and, aside from an initial demand to "sign in" everything appears to be back to normal for now.  All in, it took about 40 minutes.

thanks for that confirmation, jimhere

In Other news...Photoshop seems MUCH zippier with this fresh install. Dunno where along the way that lost speed but it was to the point that my G4 Mini running Photoshop Elements was looking like the superior alternative...

I run CS6 on an 8-core Mac Pro FYI..

The problem is that I didn't download any trial what so ever... but it just started the Extended Trial version completely without my knowledge or consent. I've had CS6 for several months now, and no reason for me to Trial the Extended version... I hope it gets sorted (soon) !!
