Launched Photoshop CS6 this morning, and suddenly it is a trial version of CS6 Extended. I did not ask for this, I do not want this, I bought, paid for and registered the regular version on the day it was released. I am not renting the software via that stupid creative clod thing, I bought it the regular way. What is happening here? Is this going to happen every time they release a minor update? How do I make it go away?
Today we released Photoshop update version 13.0.4 (for Mac perpetual customers) and version 13.1.2 (for Creative Cloud members, Mac and Windows), resolving this licensing issue:
How to get the Update
1. In Photoshop, choose Help > Updates.
2. The Adobe Application Manager will launch. Select Adobe Photoshop CS6 and choose Update.

I've only got Photoshop so I don't know if your problem is the same as mine and most other people who have been posting in this thread. What I did was uninstall and reinstall. You could try that - it's what I would do. But if you are a Cloud subscriber, I'm afraid I have no idea what you would do.

Cloud subscribers also have the ability to go back to the CS6 version.
Sorry I don't have better news to share but as has been mentioned a few times, going back to the CS6 version and then applying the 13.0.1 update is the only good known solution at this point.
The cause is a bug in the licensing component that is intermittent and only happens on certain machines.

That is useful to know Barry. I'm not sure where I read that but clearly it was erroneous. The other thing to clarify in relation to Photoshop is that it is safe to get the ACR 7.3 update through the program updater. If you don;t get this and you have Lightroom 4.3, you get a message about where you want to render the raw file because of incompatibilties between the raw converters. This was confusing for me as I wasn't sure what to choose so I did the ACR update only through Photoshop. No problems and I'm 6 days in now so I guess it's working.

I updated to Camera Raw 7.3 through Photoshop and had no problems just now processing a Raw file in Lightroom 4.3. In the file info it shows it was processed by camera Raw 7.3.

I probably didn't explain that properly. What I meant was that if you don't update to ACR 7.3, you get a potentially confusing message about incompatibilities when going from Lightroom to editing in Photoshop. I've done as you have.

I was probably just reading too quickly. In any case it doesn't look like there's any major reason not to update to ACR 7.3.

I've been reading through this thread and noticed that a lot of posts are from Mac users. I just want to clarify that the problem also exists on Windows machines. I got hit with this on a Vista 64bit installation that has been trouble free until now.
I have never liked Product Activation and at the moment I'm pretty much hating it. It doesn't seem particularly customer friendly to build a system into your software that is meant to lock people out, to then lose control of it with no solution but to continually sign in to a newly required online account and enter a boatload of numbers, and to then post NOTHING about the problem anywhere -- making your customers waste valuable time tracking the problem down.
I'm not particularly anxious to uninstall and reinstall, because then I'd have to try to deactivate and then reinstall/reactivate all of my plugins. This is HOURS of work.

I'm not particularly anxious to uninstall and reinstall... This is HOURS of work.
simply clicking on the Trial screen "Start Trial" option (not License This Software) is working for me and saving me from having to enter my serial every time and it allows me to work with the latest updates
hopefully Adobe will have a fix before the Trial version runs out...

I have spoken to Adobe Customer Support on the telephone today and they confirmed that the matter is known and that the developement team are working on a an update to fix the problem as quickly as possible they also sent me the following email:
Your Adobe ID:Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Your Case Number:0xxxxxxxxxxx
Dear Xxxxxxxxxxxxx,
Thank you for contacting Adobe Technical Support. My name is Amit and I am responding in reference to your call dated 24/12/2012. as when you open Photoshop CS6 it open as trial. In this we are aware of the issue and you can use the option "license this software" as a workaround.
This email is in response to support case #Xxxxxxxxxxx submitted by Xxxxxxxxx Xxxxxx.
To respond to this update or review your case history, log in to the Adobe Support Portal online and look for your case number in the "recent activity" section. Should you need to send us additional information, you can do so by opening the case and submitting your update.
If you have difficulties logging in, consult the Adobe ID and Membership FAQ.
Thank you,
Adobe Customer Care
They also confirmed during the telephone conversation that even if the "trial" runs out it will still be possible to enter the license number and get Photoshop working for that session.
I guess all we can do now is wait or, as other have suggested, uninstall and then re-install and update to 13.0.1 (the last "safe" update version).

Lucky you.
The support guys I exchange messages with since days didn't acknowledge anything, I even gave them the URL to this discussion.
Support so far: zero.

They're still either unaware of, or simply not telling you about the much
more hassle-free solution.

Uninstalling and reinstalling is hassle-free? By comparison to that how bad is clicking an extra button when you start Photoshop, really?
Keep in mind some people might actually want the new features the new version brings.
I say ignore the nag screen and enjoy using the Extended functionality for now.

Wrong.
It deactivated my license now two times.
And changed my activation counter with Adobe, this is what really makes me upset!

Are you actually running the extended version in the first place? From your first post, that was the impression that I got. If that is the case, then your problem is different to what most people in here have been experiencing. Most of us in this thread are running the standard version which unexpectedly turns into a trial extended version and only happened after the 13.02 update. The simple cure for that is to uninstall and reinstall. I've had no problem with activation. I've not had to reactivate at all.

I am sure the extended version has certain value that us standard version users are not aware of.
So, while Adobe is working on a fix to return our trial extended version to standard version, why don't they post training videos sucking us into understand what we can do with 3D?
It's Christmas. All of us have junk party photos best used for experiements and practice with PS CS6 trial extended.
Show us what we can do with an ordinary photos with 3D and make it extrodinary. Show us how to do it, how to use the tools.
Show us how to buy the extended version. How much. Where to download.
Come on, we all screw up, big deal. Don't panic. Make the most out of the opportunity.
Who knows, if we know what more we can actually do with 3D from some kind of comparison videos, then, we may just buy the 3D as a fix.
Smell the coffee, make it happen.

When we bought CS6 , we had to pay at once not after holidays!! It's a very expensive application , specially in Europe, please give us what we deserve. A good service!!

Sorry to hear that. I'm sailing along smoothly now for about 5 days.

So I just went through and opened all of my CS6 programs, and all of these give me the free trial window:
Photoshop
Illustrator
After Effects
Audition
Encore
Extension Manager
Flash
Prelude
Speedgrade
Oddly enough, Premiere Pro, Bridge, and Media Encoder are the only CS6 programs that don't. All the others not only act like they are free trials, but they are all on the same "timeline", even though I have not opened some of them until today (they all say 25 days remaining).
So what do you guys think I should do? reinstall all of these? How do I know which updates are safe to get? Has this been determined to be caused by JUST a PS update? You guys think I should try just PS first, or all the programs?
One last question - I have never resinstalled an Adobe program - do I just uninstall the program then install it again from my Production Premium Disk Image? (I dont have a disk, I downloaded the whole suite from Adobe).

I couldn't advise on reinstalling the entire suite as I've only got Photoshop (and Lightroom). I don't know whether you might lose program settings etc or whether the reinsall would even work. If this is a general problem, there must be other people experiencing it so maybe you ought to look in the other program forums.
On the other hand, if that was happening to me, I'd almost certainly reinstall. I find the trial pop-up really invasive, as Sungyle said way back somewhere it feels like one is being violated, having these popups and nag screens to invade one's workspace and headspace. I don't agree with Noel Carboni in this regard. I didn't want to accept a trial version of a program for which I have no need, I just wanted to get along with my work. And reinstalling Photoshop only takes about 10-15 minutes.

You should only need to reinstall Photoshop. You can uninstall Photoshop from the alias in the Application folder, and then re-install it from disk (or download from the creative cloud).

Well, uninstalled Photoshop and resinstalled it... seemed to make no difference. Trial message popped up the first time I opened it. *sigh*

After re-installing, when the trial dialog pops up, choose License this software, and then enter your serial. This should take care of it.
