Scratch disk is not the same as the disk where you have your image files.

Photoshop moves large amounts of data around, much more than can be held in RAM. So it reserves a portion of your drives to store temporary working data. This is the scratch disk. By default it goes to the system drive, but you can pick any drive you want to make sure there is enough space.

The scratch disk can require a lot of free space, so don't skimp. Here it goes first to a dedicated small SSD, when that is full it goes to the system drive, also SSD, and then finally for really big files it can use a spinning 10TB drive:

How much free space do you have on your scratch disk(s)?

Hi

Try this:

Hold down Ctrl+Alt (Cmd+Opt on Mac) as you open Photoshop. This should give you a menu allowing you to choose the scratch disk. Ensure this is set to the disk you are using for scratch.
