Hi. I'm writing this after so many tries and things I saw on Internet: youtube, articles, forums and even here in order to fix this problem and nothing has worked so far (1 week without Ps).
After updating Ps to 22.3.1 it suddenly can't detect my GPU. I'm using Ps for years and it has never happend before. On Edit > Preferences > Performance it says "Unknown GPU (UNKNOWN)" while the "Use Graphics Processor" box is grayed out (isn't available to check it). In the description below it says that there is a problem with the GPU driver. All drivers and updates of GPU and Win10 are up to date and installed.
Things I've already tried many times and didn't fix the problem:
- Reinstalling Ps 22.3.1 3 times, and Adobe creative cloud once.
- Other versions of Ps (22.0 and above) - which have worked fine before.
- Reinstalling the GPU drivers and Win updates.
- Reboot PC.
It is importent to mention that my GPU is recognized by any other app/program/game without any issues, also in the Nvidia control panel I made sure Ps is working on Nvidia's GPU.
In Ps version 21.2.7 I don't have this problem (GPU is well detected) and everything is fine. However, I pay for the latest version therefore this is not satisfying me.
PLEASE help me out here. I'm desperate.

Hi! I had the same problem in version 22.3.1- "Unknown graphics processor". The only thing that helped me : get back to version 22.3

Hi and thank you for your comment! as I wrote at the main post - I've already tried every single version from 21.2.7 up to 22.3.1. Nothing works.

I have exactly the same problem. I'm on Windows with a 5700XT. Suddenly the GPU is undetected. Can only assume that its a bug in this latest version as it was working fine previously. Seems quite a few people are experiencing this. Unfortunately it means I cant use any 3D features which is annoying. I've reverted back to 2020 for now. Hopefully this will get fixed soon.

Thank you for your comment. I would like to know if it worked.
For the last 2 hours an Adobe support agent is trying to fix this problem via remote support and he is doing his best without success. Now he told me that a senior from his department will contact me and try himself to figure out the problem. Hope he will solve this.

Hi!
Any success on that one? I have exactly the same issue.
My Dell XPS15, GeForce GTX1650, all updated shows the same - unknown GPU. It works fine on LR but not on PS. The only temp solution to that is what someone before has mentioned - reset preferences. It helps just for single boot of PS. I have to repeat the 'reset' every time I close PS.

Hi. Nothing is new for the moment. 3 different agents of Adobe have tried to fix this on my computer via remote session but they couldn't figure out what is the problem. at the new version 22.4.1 the GPU is recognized but the OpenCl box at Edit>Preferences>Performance>Advanced is grayed out which makes many features as Oil paint not available to use. In addition Ps is crushing sometimes with other features. nothing is working - even reset preferences isn't.

Also having this issue. Noticed because it disables scrubby zoom.

A bit of background on the video card :
There are several things at play here.
1. Adobe are updating the core graphics functions in Photoshop. This is driven by the operating systems of Apple and Microsoft in which the old Open GL/CL functions are being removed in the case of Apple, or deprecated in the case of Microsoft. This means that the graphics functions that have worked for years must be rewritten to use Metal and Direct X. At the same time, Adobe are sensibly updating those core functions to deliver the additional speed we require to handle the very large files of today.
2. Led by the changes being made above, Adobe introduced new GPU checks in 23.3.1. Unfortunately, these caused issues and have therefore been revised for v22.4. That means that many GPUs that incorrectly did not work in 22.3.1 will now be seen in 22.4 and will function.
3. Some functionality in Photoshop, such as 3D, still relies on the older Open GL graphics functions. To make these work, an additional preference Preferences>Technology previews>Deactivate Native Canvas has been added. This can be checked and Photoshop restarted to restore 3D functions to where they were in 22.3
4. Unfortunately, the move to update the core graphics functions will mean that some older GPUs will no longer be suitable. If you are using 22.4 and your GPU is still not recognised, first make sure the driver is up to date. If it is up to date, and you only have a single GPU enabled ( conflicting GPUs remain an issue), then you could try and force Photoshop to use your older GPU by creating a file PSUserConfig.txt containing the lines:
# Force GPU On
GPUForce 1
Save that text file to :
Windows: [InstallationDrive]:\Users \ [UserName]\ AppData\ Roaming\ Adobe\ [Photoshop_version]\[Photoshop_version]Settings\
macOS: //Users/[UserName]/Library/Preferences/[Photoshop_version]Settings/
Note though that this requires 22.4 or 22.4.1 and is not officially supported by Adobe, so may cause other issues – so you do it at your own risk

Thanks a lot for all your input Dave. I will definitely try what you said. However, I can't say that GTX1650 is an old GPU. To me it all sounds like some sort of bug and I hope that they are working on it and it will get sorted soon.
