Photoshop eraser painting problem

My eraser is painting the second color instead of erasing ( In this case white but I've tried it with different colors ) I'm not sure when it started and I've not been able to find how to fix it.

Yes your Layer 1 has Lock Transparent Pixels enabled, so that is preventing Erasing to transparency.

(Layer 1 has a little Padlock)

 

Pressing the Backslash key as Glenn suggested does the same as pressing the Lock Transparent Pixels icon in the Layers panel.

Press the forward slash- it's the one under the question mark on your keyboard.  You're basically painting with your background color (That's a super simple way of 'splaining it).
