Photoshop Error: saving smart object files

Hi all! Whenever I try and save (linked and embedded) smart objects on any mockup files after uploading the image, it comes up with this message: 'Could not update smart object files because the file was not found.' I've also just re-downloaded Photoshop to see if that would help, but the same issue has come up. Has anyone had the problem of not being able to save smart object files in Photoshop CC 2018? Thanks in advance!

Could you walk me through expanding the smart layer to apply displace to it. I have the map and I see the smart object layer but it is not collapsed it is just one layer. When I edit contents and apply the displacement map i get the same error as everyone else, so just not sure where to apply the displacement map to reset the layer.

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

Jeff the problem was in the PSD there was/is a smart displacement filter in the template that was using a displacement map file the user did not have on their machine.  When the user replaced the content of the smart object layers object the smart displacement filter needed to be re-applided for the layers new content.  However the Filter could not do its thing because the displacement map file was not on the machine.

In the template there would be a smart opject layer attached to that layer would be a Filter mask and under the filter mask a Smart Displaceme filter.  If you replace the smart object layer conten the Smart Displacment will be be re-applied by Photoshop. Photoshop could not apply the filter the map file was missing.

If you have downloaded the PSD file from the Internet then the person who uploaded it there have not attached the displacement map file along with the final file.

So, When you save layer "Change your design here," it says "Could not find the file" because photoshop opens it as PSB file in the Temporary file folder on your computer. Not the original file which is missing.

The solution is, you create your own displacement maps and then "Double click" on "Displace" of your smart object and replace the file.

Now you have your new displacement map somewhere saved on your computer which will be used every time you change your design.

Creating Displacement Map is extremely easy and if you are new please watch any youtube video!

Thanks.
