I just wanted to share some information that may help some. I had a situation where all my PSD and Jpeg files simply vanished from my PC. I can't explain how or why it happened but I finally found where they went. If anyone is using Microsoft 365 OneDrive is part of the program. It makes backups of pretty much all your documents, photos and Photoshop files. In the "My Files" section of OneDrive I found the backup of my Photoshop files folder and everything was there. Im assuming One drive didn't make copies, it simply grabbed everything in my desktop folder and moved into it's program.

In any case, OneDrive is a place to check if your PC and Adobe Cloud storage come up empty.

Have a great day...

I have noticed with my students that some of the cloud based file sharing systems can be confusing because they also have locations with the same names as on their local hard drive such as Desktop or Documents. They save their files there and then aren't sure where they are.

One way you can find a file is by using your recent Photoshop files list if it hasn't been cleared. Go to File > Open Recent and select the file from the list. Once the file is open, if you go to File > Save As..., then Photoshop will open the location of that file.
