Photoshop fills the virtual memory when I "render video" and crashes my PC. How do I fix this?

When I try to render a video, the virtual memory fills and the PC stops working. I increased the virtual memory to 150 GB on the Windows 7 PC and the result was that it took longer to fill but crashed the PC anyway. This happens on both a Windows 7 Tower and a Windows 10 Microsoft Surface Book.

I made the video with a Canon 7D and adjusted it with a smart camera raw filter.

I have done this in the past without problems. So I tried to render the video with PS 2015.5. It also filled the virtual memory.

I took the Widows 7 PC to my local repair shop and they put a larger boot drive in and cleaned up a problem with some updates. The Photoshop performance was not improved.

I have searched for information about the virtual memory and Photoshop. Almost all discussion ignores the virtual memory and only looks at installed Ram.

How much RAM do you have installed and how big is the file you're working on, can you post your Photoshop system info, go to Help > System Info and copy and paste that into this thread

In addition to what the other guys have said, you might like to experiment with Premiere as it has vastly better memory management and also a pre-render mode that permits you to work in a low res mode while editing. Photoshop frankly is not that great when working with video

YES, Premiere is better. It has color adjustments (not as good as Photoshop) and can render the video very quickly. However, I only need to process a few half-minute clips at a time. The clips are taken on my Canon SLR cameras. The $20 per month in addition to Photoshop is prohibitive.

Hi Frank,

I thought the cost of a Premiere subscription may have been a limiting factor and I fully agree for low volume video production it cannot be justified. All I can say is you get what you pay for. Video in Photoshop in my opinion is a bolt on that Adobe can provide inexpensively as they have a major team of engineers working on Premiere and so can port a subset of it's features to Photoshop without great cost and yet at the same time enhance Photoshop's appeal in a positive way. Like you I'm not a videographer just using my trusty Canon but am a bit lucky as ACPs do have access to Premiere and After Effects which makes us lucky.

Hi,

I have a similar problem...

When trying to render a video with a smart object coupled to Camera Raw with many adjustments in it Photoshop crashes after a while.

I can see on IStat menus how the RAM use is building up to a maximum and then then the whole thing just stops...

I have a new fast computer with the latest Photoshop version and 32 GB RAM (I checked also with added RAM to 64 GB!)

I am an artist and has been working with Photoshop since 1990. Now I am into video but with my way of working Photoshop is still my tool. I actually got quite pleased when I realized I could continue with my favourite program!

But now this...

I cannot work in Premiere or FCP X or Resolve to get the results I want!

I really hope you are right Terri that the experience the team working on Premiere gets spills over also to Photoshop

IF ANYONE KNOWS HOW TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM PLEASE ANSWER THIS!!!
