Photoshop freezing hard everytime

It's an oldie but a goodie.

PS is FREEZING hard on simply importing and recropping a few jpgs.

I've done all the go to procedures found here https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-crash-or-freeze.html

completely ineffective. Bizarre. Any ideas?

Incidentally is there a developer issue at the company? Other than the marketing gimmicks, the company seems in disarray at the amount of instability the products are becoming  known for

What are your system specs? Could you also post the content from Help > System Info?

Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences (Photoshop > Preferences > Performance > Graphic Processor Settings) and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue? 
Does turning on »Deactivate Native Canvas« (Photoshop > Preferences > Technology Previews) and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?
