Photoshop getting extremelly slow

Hello!

Recently after few updates photoshop became basically usuably slow. CS6 is working well, fast, clean, without any lags, CC18 works slower than slow. Ctrl+T lags pretty much every time, ctrl+alt+z sometimes basiacally do nothing (i need to alt+tab few times, so PS magically starts doing stuff). Colour picking with brush sometimes makes a party after lagging for like 10 seconds.
Did everything about optimalizing performance, reinstalld all drivers etc, and its still laggy. Also today I spoke with a friend of mine, he said he has the same issues with his I9 and four Titans 1080. Anything is going to get better, or switching to CS6 is the only option?

Please try to reset the Photoshop preferences. Usually it solves 90% of the problems.

CC2018 is faster than CS6 due to ability to use open GL, but you notice that more on complex vector shape files as in Illustrator.  Older graphics card may be conflict with the code for Open GL so  try turning that off.  (I am on mac so my settings may look different, but should help.

Well, it might do the trick, but GTX760M should be more than enough to process brushes and using shift with brush. Not to mention a friend using 4 GTX 1080 Titan, who also noticed Photoshop lagging very ofter :d

But still even still,  the Open GL thing could still be causing it to have fits.  If it doesn't work, let us know and we can figure out other alternatives

Keep updating your CC2018 using Adobe Cloud, as the patches to CC2018 are usually covering   OpenGL issues.

If you are running windows restart your computer and see how Photoshop runs initially before booting a browser or anything else, as that OS is easily comprimised by malware. Not even a matter of if, but how bad the data tracking is.

It solves temporarly. But when I start editing prefernece somepoint it slows down again.

I don't remember which part of preference. It might be a brush, action or custom hotkey.

Anyway it's a big deal I need to clear my preference.

Is there any solution beside this?

Hmmm...do you have other apps running as well?  How loaded down is your computer?  As an illustrator who does a lot of work digitally,  slowdowns are never fun.  So,  lets get this sorted out for you.

Usually Chrome with some music on, and sometimes Rhinoceros 3d (but not used takes pretty much nothing of resources), and some things like Steam in the background and Avast, but as I looked them up, they are not heavy on pc.
The hardware is not the most powerful thing in the world, since it's 16gb Ram, GTX760m and i7 -4702. It used to work well on linearts as big as 10000 px wide, now it lags on 5000, sometimes even less. Not to mention working with a file that has more than 10 layers (I tried in preferences using different cache and history options). And Windows 8.1 was reinstalled like 2 months ago, so it's still clean.

10.000 px x 5000 px? How many bits? How many ppi?

Or it happens also with small projects?

Cheers,
Martin

The last freeze was at 5000x2114, 300ppi, Image Size: 30.7M. I tried reseting preferences, and after relaunching it seem to work a bit better, but will let you know after some hours of working.

GTX 760m, but reseting the preferences did the trick I think. Everything runs smoothly and did not noticed any major lags like before. But if anything will happen soon, I'll let you know!
