Photoshop Glitches Galore: Eyedropper, Marquee Select, Move Canvas, Etc.

Hello all,

I'm experiencing several reoccuring glitches with Photoshop that have been happening over a period of weeks now. I'm tried a few different solutions to all of these and have had no luck:

  • When I use the eyedropper tool to select a color using the "alt" shortcut, the canvas view pans to the right or left and it selects a grayscale color instead.
  • When I try to use the square/rectangular marquee select tool, it will snap the canvas to the left or right and instead select a random area.
  • While using "space" to move around the canvas, the canvas view snaps to the left or right continuously.

Restarting Photoshop fixes these issues for a few minutes but then they resume. I have tried restarting Photoshop, restarting my PC, making sure all my OS was up to date, making sure CC and all apps are up to date, resetting my preferences, turning "Use Graphics Processor" off, restarting, turning it on, and restarting again. Nothing has worked and I'm getting to this point where it's really starting to slow down my workflow because I have to restart Photoshop once every 30 minutes or so. The only other Adobe program I use is Illustrator and it hasn't had any glitches.

Any help would be appreciated 😞

Hello, while some forum helpers might be true wizards, divination is not one of their powers.
One poster has a PC, another tells us that it is Photoshop 2020, the third uses windows 10...
Precise information about your setup might tell us about a know bug/issue, or help the developers pinpoint a problem.

Please go to help>system info, and tell us the exact version of Photoshop (21.1.2 is the latest) the exact version of your operating system, if the graphic card has a recent driver (there is a string in sysinfo like 20200102 would be 02 january 2020), if you are using a graphic tablet to interact with Photoshop, if you are using WindowsInk or WinTab to transmit the tablet data to Photoshop. (the wacom driver has a button, other tablets, you need to use a text file to force Wintab.

Thank you for the reply (it's true that we should give more information when submitting issues). I'm using the latest Photoshop version (21.1.2), updated to the latest version two days ago, but I remember the issue was already present in past version.

Adobe Photoshop Version: 21.1.2 20200410.r.136 2020/04/10: efaf3fa4e40 x64

Running on Windows 10

Hi, using a tablet, or not? is wintab checked in the wacom driver?
Could you please copy/paste the help>system info?

There is a known issue with zooming while rotated, IIRC.

I'm encountereing the same issue regarding moving around the canvas. It also happens with the rotation tool and it's quite frustrating to close the software every 10 min. I try not to use the space shortcut but it's hard to move around without it really. First I thought that it was an extension that would cause this so I uninstall Textile Designer but the bug is still there... I hope Adobe could fix  this soon because it's hard to work efficiently with that bug going on.

PS: I'm on Windows 10

I'm having the same problem with the rectangular marquee tool since updating to 2020 version. It's completely unusable now. Hand tool is also behaving as you describe, except it's not consistent. Sometimes it works as it should...I can't find any pattern to it, though. The alt for sampling colors seems to be working for me so far.
