Photoshop increidbly slow with GPU acceleration enabled, 3060 TI

I'm not sure if this is considered a bug or not, but it's been bothering me alot.  I am running the latest drivers for the 3060 TI, the latest Photoshop update, I've updated my windows 10 install, and I'm still running into the issue of the simplist operations taking well over 20 seconds to complete.  But as soon as I go into the performance settings and turn off "Use Graphics Processor", it runs great (From what I've seen).

This is annoying, as I'd like to utilize the new card I just bought, and not have it ruin the software.  Premiere Pro also likes to behave very slowly when I know for a fact the same composition ran great in After Effects.  Any ideas?

Hi, @XANJ @I know it sounds counterintuitive, but could you try rolling back with a clean reinstall of the November 524.28, I think, Studio drivers? Many users reported issues with subsequent drivers versions.

Hey @Bojan Živković & @PECourtejoie.  Thanks for your help! I have tried both of your suggestions to no avail. The usual troubleshooting steps didn't work, there are no G-Sync options in my Control Panel, and a complete driver rollback and reinstall using DDU and the official drivers didn't work either.

In fact, I have found that with GPU acceleration on or off, the software is terribly slow on several operations. I'm not sure what to do at this point.  Here is a video showing this: (Screen recording does not affect performance, it is pretty much the exact same, recording or not.)

I get it's not the best demonstration, but it's this choppy and slow with nearly everything else when it wasn't like this before (This is after I rolled back drivers and tried troubleshooting)

Apparently there are problems specific to AMD Ryzen systems that can be fixed by updating the BIOS.

@D Fosse,  Thanks for the suggestion (I should've updated my BIOS in general, it was outdated!).  I went ahead and updated but I'm still getting the same terrible performance.  I am just lost at this point.

Check also that some software like antivirus does not blocks Photoshop from operating properly, thats the only thing that comes to my mind at the moment.

Hey @CoryShubert.

Thank you for the help!  However, after several attempts, I am unable to properly load the older driver.  After a driver clean-up and an install, the drivers won't even load.  My PC ends up being aware of a card, but no drivers. 

I have tried about 3 times now; a complete removal of NVIDIA and GEFORCE software on my computer, and an install of the drivers you linked me. Apologies if this is outside the realm of Adobe's support, I just don't know what to do at this point.

Just stop what you're doing, download the driver you want to your desktop, and launch it.

You don't need to remove the old driver first. Just launch the install package and check "clean install". This will remove all traces of any old driver(s) and install the new.

I'd recommend unchecking all the extra components in the driver package. You don't need them. Just install the base driver.

@D Fosse.  Standard install, no DDU, no safe mode: results in 1 monitor being off, 4:3 stretched resolution, DXDIAG reporting no use of Geforce drivers, they seem to not load.

I have system with Ryzen and nVidia (5 5600G and RTX 2060). Everything
works fine even with latest nVidia driver. I saw also some compliants on
Ryzen processors which may be problematic but only on some systems. For now
nobody come out with some guidance which combination in particular or which
Ryzen processor is problematic. From my observation most of the time
processor is doing heavy work, only new features and filters rely on GPU
and of course GPU is crucial to show changes on screen.

Update: I got a driver rollback to work, but it does absolutely nothing.  Can still confirm 10+ second operation times for things like clicking and dragging text

I was having an issue with my RTX-2070 card. I discovered by going into Tech Preview in Preference and insure the Decativate Native Canvas is unchecked (screen shot att). The GPU mode for Win machine should be D3D12 which is in the Info panel or the lower left corner of the screen. You can set the parameters you want to monitor here

I was having the same issue that drove me crazy for days. In my case i just had to uncheck the "Older GPU mode" (see capture above). I do not know why it was checked in the first place though.

Just to clarify, those two checkboxes are unchecked by default and should normally remain so.

"Native Canvas" means that everything you see on screen is rendered by OS-native APIs - DirectX on Windows, Metal on Mac. Checking this box reverts to the older OpenGL APIs.

OpenGL is no longer supported or developed on either platform; hence the need to migrate the whole code base to DirectX/Metal. That's a pretty massive operation that has been going on for several versions; I have no idea how "finished" that migration is at this point. In any case, running it under OpenGL will probably still work for a while longer.

I would assume (but don't know) that "Older GPU mode" is a subset of this.

Direct3D is a component in the wider DirectX framework. DirectX version 12 is the current Photoshop requirement.
