PHOTOSHOP: Issue with Text Alignment on Path (Mac)

Has anyone encountered this issue before?

Previously, when using the Pen Tool to create a path and input text, the text would follow the path correctly. However, I’m now experiencing a misalignment—please see the attached screenshot for reference.

Has there been a change in settings, or is there a workaround to resolve this?

Appreciate any insights!

OK first of all, the two earlier answers you got sound like they didn’t even look at the screen shot you attached. I did, and the misalignment shown in your screen shot shows is definitely not expected and very odd. And, based on how it looks, it probably won’t be fixed by either of the suggestions you got earlier.

First, let’s clarify what you are trying to do. Based on your screen shot, were you trying to fill the interior of the path with text, with the path being a non-rectangular text container? And did you do that by clicking when the pointer looked exactly like in this picture?

If so, then your screen shot does look like the text container bounding box is, like you said, out of alignment with the path. For some reason, the bounding box is offset down and to the right.

If that’s what’s happening, it is definitely wrong. But I don’t know exactly what would cause that. We can guess, though. Based on similar problems seen in Photoshop and other Adobe graphics apps, this might be caused by an issue with Photoshop and the graphics hardware, or the graphics driver software.

Your post says you’re on macOS, and so am I. But on my Mac, it works as expected, as shown in this picture:

What kind of Mac do you have? I’m using an Apple Silicon Mac (M1). One way to find out if it’s related to a graphics hardware glitch is to open Photoshop preferences, and in the Performance panel, play around with the graphics processor settings. Step 1 would be to see if it still happens if you disable Use Graphics Processor…does that improve it at all?

Hi Conrad_C,

Thank you for your detailed explanation. I truly appreciate your insights, as I was beginning to doubt myself after seeing conflicting answers elsewhere.

I’ve been using Photoshop Beta since 2023 and have never encountered this issue before. In fact, I was using it without problems as recently as February 24. However, after updating the app, I suddenly noticed that text no longer aligns properly with the path I create.

I’ve attached screenshots to illustrate the issue:

  • The first attachment shows how the text box does not align correctly with the intended path.

  • The second attachment demonstrates that, even though the text appears to follow the path, when viewed or saved without the text box, the misalignment remains.

It's quite frustrating, as I rely on the Beta version for Generative AI background fillers while also using Photoshop 2025. I’ve also checked my settings—including ensuring that my graphics processor is enabled—and experimented with adjustments, but the issue persists.

For now, I’ll continue using Photoshop 2025 for path-related work while waiting for future Beta updates that may resolve the glitch.

Thanks again for taking the time to review my attachments and for your guidance—I really appreciate it.

This issue mostly arises due to Baseline Alignment or Path Direction. Firstly open the Character Panel and check whether Baseline Shift is at 0 or not. I hope this will solve the issue.

Hey, @Anna Vida. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll move this post to discussions. I'll need more info to help you figure this out. Please share the system info from Photoshop Help > System info > Copy and paste into a text document > upload and attach here. Are you using any stylus input or just the regular mouse and keyboard?

In this case, you can begin by resetting the Pen tool itself. Right-click on the Brush Tool icon in the Toolbar menu and select Reset Tool.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks!
