Photoshop lag when using customised workspace

Hello, I am hoping for some help with this bug that I have been experiencing for a few months. I am unsure when exactly it came into effect.

Common lags I am experiencing:

  • Brush slow to catch up when using the Healing Brush Tool
  • Selecting source point with Healing Brush and Clone Stamp Tool
  • Increasing/decreasing brush size using [ and ] keyboard shortcuts
  • Zooming in and out of the document
  • Using Hand Tool to pan around the document
  • Using Pen Tool
  • Switching between tools

In trying to fix these lag issues, I have uninstalled Photoshop, deleted all preferences and reinstalled it. I have also installed older versions with no luck.

After installing Photoshop again, I didn’t have my workspace preferences anymore and the problem seemed to disappear. After creating a new custom workspace laid out how I like, the lag came back instantly.

I am a professional retoucher and I have utilised customised workspaces for ease of use for many years. I usually set up an external monitor with all my most frequented panels laid out like this, for example:

Please excuse the blurred sections, just hiding client info.

As soon as I switch back to a default workspace, such as “Photography” (even with the panels moved around a bit on an external monitor), the lag disappears.

Running:

Adobe Photoshop 25.3.1

macOS Sonoma - Version 14.2.1

Mac Studio - 2022

Apple M1 Ultra

128GB RAM

4TB Storage

Apple Studio Displays

Wacom Pro Tablet

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated, it’s really slowing down my workflow.

Thank you
