Photoshop layer moving issues

People have had a lot of issues with moving layers in Photoshop, but I could not find anything similar I am experiencing. Generally, the selected layer not moving is related to the Auto-Select checkbox, but mine is unchecked. Still, I cannot move layers at all, basically, unless I select several at a time. Most nuts is that the move tool seems to be moving only a kind of a background mask that applies even to emptiness – transparent background. I have closed Photoshop twise and restarted my MacBook once to no avail. This is ridiculous! This only started with the latest update, 23.3. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER, ADOBE!

Correct answer Earth Oliver

If you look at the document tab, you'll see that you're in Quick Mask mode. Disable that by pressing Q.

It's not a bug, it's user error as identified by @Earth Oliver

THANK YOU! That quick mask was on completely unintentionally, must have hit on it by accident, so it really didn't cross my mind as a possible explanation. That behaviour was so effing confusing! Have to apologise Adobe too for accusing them for this.
