Photoshop. Layer names.

May be it's better to don't name default new layer as "layer 525"?

I mean, when there're a lot of layers, its easier to find that layer, you gave a name. Just additional priority to notice a layer when scrolling.

Color markers are nice, but it takes 2 additional clicks for each layer to mark it.

Btw: It's the same situation with layer 525 copy 3 - its useless information usually - just a bit more chaos in menu

I am curious to hear your idea about new layers, what you would like to see or what are you suggesting for the naming convention when creating new layers. You can submit your idea here Photoshop Family Customer Community

Until Photoshop changes to give you more default renaming options, a good thing to do is to change how you create layers so that it always asks you for a name. For example, while clicking the New Layer button creates a default name, if you Option-click/Alt-click instead, it displays the New Layer dialog box so you can type a name right away.

Similarly, if you don't like layer copies always having "copy" at the end, then hold down Alt/Option as you drag a layer to the New Layer icon and before it finishes duplicating, it displays the Duplicate Layer dialog box so that you can type in the name you want.

Adding to Conrad’s post, one can permanently turn off the copy suffix in layer options:

The move tool with auto select: layer can at least help to find what layer is what by clicking on what you see, then rename it.

That's just a default naming convention. It's best to always rename the layers to something meaningful to your image.

Yeah, but it's a time consuming part. Especially when there're  several hundreds layers.

But I'm about what the use of that default names?- they don't help anyhow

Best to name layers as you go along to support your workflow but you can always try and write a script to auto rename them but I think it would be less useful.
