My son has received a PDF file of a family crest from a artist and is asking me make a file with the background transparent. Is this possible in Photoshop. My operating system and Photoshop version is shown in my signature line.
Have you previewed rasterizing the file in Photoshop, or opened it in Photoshop? Or are you just evaluating the white background in Acrobat Reader or another PDF viewer? Depending on viewing settings and how the file is constructed, the background may be transparent and the display is white.

Hi
There are many ways to create a transparent background in Photoshop, you need to save the file in a format that supports transparency.
You could make a selection of the crest and hit CMD + J to transfer it to it's own layer, maybe you could post the document in question for better advice.

Thanks Stephen that's the advice I was seeking the background areas were already in transparency mode. Did a print test and I was fine.
