Photoshop masking not working

Hi,

I'm having issues with masking any photo, object, text... literally anything.

The brush I'm using to mask is set to 100% opacity, and blending mode to normal.

Regardless of the settings or the kind of image, faded versions of the images stay there for no reason.

Any ideas why?

@Good Venture just noticed the same issue on my system, Windows 10 with Photoshop version 25.5.1, resetting the preferences fixed it for me.
