Photoshop Not Opening Files

Today, I ran all the updates. Got Photoshop 2021, and Photoshop is not working right. I keep trying to open a JPG or a PSD file. I keep getting this error message: "Could not complete your request because of a program error." Then the Photoshop wouldn't turn off. I kept tying to exit the program, and got the same error message. The only way to turn it off was to end task in task manager. I've rebooted my computer, opened Photoshop back up, and still get the same error message. See screenshot attached. I'm frustrated and on a print deadline. Any suggestions?

Rather than mess with the graphic processing unit on my computer, I opted to revert to an earlier version of Photoshop. For me, that's 2020. For options, see https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/known-issues.html#ProgramErroropeningfiles.

Try this:

While Photoshop is loading, hit control/alt/delete, then cancel.

When I spoke with a Photoshop tech recently, he had heard of neither the problem nor the solution.

It's a hassle, but works for me.

I have the same problem and have done all the suggestions on the posts and nothing works really. last week I went bak to an older version and that seemd to work for a bit. This morniong it was working fine as until it started doing the same not letting me open files, and to force quit the app I have to do it through task manager.  it's really anoying.

I too have suffered grievously from my Photoshop's recurring inability to open files.  I've tried all the suggestion on this page and more, and none works. But I have a solution:  It is to call the Adobe Helpline, 1-800-833-6687.  When, after waiting a half hour, and describing the problem to the representative, you authorize Adobe to share your screen. When they enter your computer,  the problem disappears.... for a short time.  The next time it occurs you call them back and go through the same exercise. That's the only solution I know.

It shocks and disappoints me that Adobe seems so indifferent to this issue. The representatives I have spoken with tell me that haven't heard this complaint from other customers.  Hard to believe.

I have the same problem after the update. I found a suggestion to turn off the graphic processor and that did allow Photoshop to work if a bit slower than usual.
