Photoshop on macOS Default Shortcut (D) setting for B&W

For some reason, when I hit D for the quick change to B&W on my color tool, it doesn't change. I manually have to click on the little B&W square. I reset brush settings to default but that didn't help. Thank you for any help.

If your keyboard shortcut is properly set as in the above screenshot, can you try it again to see if it was a fluke? If needed, try quitting Photoshop and try it again.

Thank you to everyone. I realized the error was mine. I had a new workspace specifically for editing certain photos and for some reason the "D" was not there in the keyboard shortcuts. Sorry for the qustion.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. We're sorry for the trouble with Photoshop. We're here to help.

Could you please share the version of Photoshop (Help > About Photoshop)& the macOS you are working on?

Which tool options are you using when you try to use the keyboard shortcut D to switch back to default foreground/background colors? Is this the only tool shortcut that does not work? Does the keyboard shortcut (X) help switch Foreground/Background colors?

Does this issue persist after restarting Photoshop & using a different document?

Go to the location of the preference folder mentioned below and rename it to backup.

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html

  • Hold down the Option key in the Finder when using the Go menu. The library will appear below the current user's home directory.
  • macOS: Go to Library > Preferences > Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings
  • Rename the Adobe Photoshop folder by adding a .old at the end. (Adobe Photoshop 2022 > Rename > Adobe Photoshop 2022. old)

These changes will give a fresh start to Photoshop as a fresh install.

Let us know if it works.

Thanks!

Sameer K

The Foreground Color and Background Color Swatches are not really called the »color tool«.

Have you checked your Keyboard Shortcuts?
