Hello there
I am using 19.1.2 release Adobe Photoshop on Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.3 (17D102).
From last 3 updates, Photoshop has been constantly playing up with saving files. Sometimes, it saves no information and all of a sudden the file becomes zero bytes.
My main issue now is, every time I hit CMD + S for the already saved file, it brings up a dialog box prompting to File save as... It is pretty annoying since I am used to saving files every minute or so.
Is there anything I need to do manually to fix this issue? Please help.
Try saving the PSD to the local hard drive and make some changes and hit CMD + S

Check to see if your file is locked. Unlocking the file fixed this issue for me.

My solution:
I was having the same problem while accessing files from our local NAS via AFP protocol under Mac OS Mojave. After switching to the SMB File Transfer Protocol I was able to save the files without prompt like before. Not sure what is causing the issue since we always using AFP and the prompt-issue appeared from one day to the other.
So my guess is it's rather a macOS file accessing issue, than a real photoshop issue. Maybe this will help some of you guys. Cheers.

Only recently did I encounter this problem after getting a new work system. Now that I have had some time to tinker around with the program, I found the settings I needed to change in order for me to disable the default file location, and not have to save my file and the changes made thereafter, as a copy.
From the toolbar, I clicked Edit > Preferences > File handling. In the File Saving Options section, for the Default File Location, I selected On your computer from the drop-down. I then placed a check in the Enable legacy "Save as" box, and in the Do not append "copy" to filename when saving a copy boxes. You will get a warning message letting you know that if you remove the "Copy" function, you may overwrite a previous project. If you know the risks, click OK in the warning box, then OK to save all of your changes. From that point, you should be able to save your files without having to see the "Save as a copy" option.
