Question

Photoshop PSD file merges all layers into one.

I have all the layers perfectly in front of me and I go to save as and click to save it as a PSD and make sure to check the [] Layers. After I save the file, I get a maximum capacity notification.

Then I go to open the document and it is a single background' layer, which I'd removed, is back, completely flattened picture of all my layers merged into one called the background layer.

I still have another file that is in my recents, but whenever I got to open it and save it to send to my teacher, it all of the sudden goes back to one locked background layer of my flattened picture. HELP.

One thing is clear. A 64MB file is MUCH too large to email. Do not do that!!! Try using DropBox or WeTransfer.

    Hi

Please post a screen shot where you have “all the layer perfectly in front of [you]”. I can think of more than one way to interpret this.

    Could be...

but doesn't that message come before the save, rather than after? And if you CANCEL nothing is saved at all?

I don't think I know what you mean by this: "After I save the file, I get a maximum capacity notification. " What is the message? Did it tell you that the save had failed? Did Photoshop notice this?

I think this refers to the "maximum compatibility"-message, which you can configure in prefs to always ask.

And for those not familiar with Photoshop dialogs and messages, it means saving a composite flattened layer along with the other layers. But that in itself won't flatten the file, the other layers will still be there.

I am working on Win 10 with latest version of Photoshop and it never happen to me. I am suspicious that some script is running in the background. Can you open File > Scripts > Script Events Manager to confirm that none of the events are set to trigger some script. Top section of the Script Events Manager is important, please confirm that it is empty or post screenshot.

    Hi

This has nothing to do with the Photoshop PSD save.

At 1:58 your video shows the PSD is saved on disk with a file size of 64MB.

At 2:06 you have attached it to your email and the email size is 3.1MB   Your email system is only attaching a reduced flattened file which you then open from the email later in the video.

Open the file saved on disk and check the layers.

And what is your Photoshop > Preferences > File Handling > Maximise PSD … setting?

Please post screenshots including the Layers Panel and the dialog window/s.
