Photoshop randomly resets all the keyboard shortcuts

Community Beginner ,

I've seen similar posts on this issue, but it also seems the folks weren't providing key details until later in the post, so I'm posting my version of this issue.

Photoshop randomly on open (many times) will reset the keyboard shortcut preferences.  I have various menu functions set to FKeys on the keyboard.  For instance, menu functions like Save or Save As, Image Size, Gaussian Blur, etc.

Two times this year this reset has also reset the Actions to defaults, which (very angrily) caused me to lose a whole new set of actions I created.  My fault for not backing them up every week, but in fairness I shouldn't have to do this.

These resets do not directly follow an update to the program - they are truly random as it just happened at the time of this posting.

Appreciate any insight!

All your preferences and settings are rewritten on every application exit (in contrast to read-only program files).

If any part of it is reset, it's because it wasn't written correctly at shutdown, iow an irregular shutdown/crash - or that Photshop doesn't have full write permissions to the target folder in the user account.

That's the basic mechanism, but why it happens can be more tricky to diagnose.

One thing you can try is to right-click and "run as administrator". This should clear permissions, and it should only be necessary to do that once.

Another thing to try is a full reset of your PS preferences. Move the whole Settings folder to the desktop. A new, fresh one will be built when PS starts. Note that this will wipe your actions, custom brushes etc, so save out in advance.

Thank you for the feedback and apologies on the delay of response - I wanted to test the first option of running the program as the admin.  That sadly didn't work as just now the preferences reset for no reason.  There haven't been any abrupt shutdowns (power loss, etc.) so I'm going to now try the second suggested option (after actions backup) and see where I land.  Speaking of actions - this has also happened twice now where the actions are just automatically reset to defaults out of no where as well.

this is among the most annoying things in photoshop at the moment. it happens for no reason and no matter how many times i have saved my kys file, i never get my keys back

its a great disgrace that adobe hasnt made a straightforward, easy way to deal with something as fundamental as one's personal shortcuts. this needs to be addressed and fixed.

ur a lot more polite about such an unnecessary program fail than i will ever be with the amount of money spent on tese products

Oh my gosh do I hear you on this!  It's still happening and I've followed all of the advice that I've heard here or elsewhere.  Still no luck.  The irony is that I saved a workspace hoping that would fix the issue.  PS loaded and my workspace was reverted to default - however the Essentials workspace was setup like the workspace that I saved as mine.

Which clearly means that Adobe just needs to sit down and fix their s$%t
