Photoshop restarts my PC

Hi, for the past couple of days, every time I open the official Photoshop and the beta version, my PC automatically restarts. This only happens with that program. It opens normally, but when I import a photo and make any movement with it within the program... poof, the PC restarts.

Has this happened to anyone, and did you find a solution?

  • I've already updated my graphics card
  • I have the latest version of Ps (the beta as well)
  • Ps is original
  • I have an RTX 3060
  • 64 GB of RAM
  • 1 TB M2 SSD
  • Licensed and updated Windows 11 Pro

I appreciate any help you can provide.

Hi! Thanks for your response. I had found a temporary solution, which was to run it as an administrator, but it only worked occasionally. My PC kept restarting. So, I contacted Adobe support, and they accessed my PC remotely and fixed the issue.

I noticed that they updated the graphics card (which I thought was already updated since I recently formatted the PC due to the Photoshop issue and all drivers were updated) and then they followed the steps in this link: [Adobe Help: Troubleshoot GPU/Graphics Card](https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-gpu-graphics-card.html) and that's it! Everything was resolved.

The only thing they did differently, which is not explained in the link, is that they also went into the PC settings and added Photoshop to the "graphics settings" with the "high performance" option.

To say more we need more informations about your system. Please provide a copy of your 'System Info'. This can be get from the Photoshop menu item Help > System Info. There's a copy button in the System Info dialog. Press this button and paste the info into your next forum post.

Have you tried to reset the preferences of Photoshop using the steps described here:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#reset-preferences

Please backup your settings before resetting the preferences. You can check:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#backup-photoshop-preferences

Another try is to disable the option to "Use Graphics Procesor" from Photoshop by going to Preferences, then Performance. Once done, quit & relaunch Photoshop to check if that helps. If it helps, you can check out the steps suggested here:   https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-gpu-graphics-card.html

Take a look especially point 7 in the "Troubleshoot GPU and Graphics driver" section.

My System: Intel i7-8700K - 64GB RAM - NVidia Geforce RTX 3060 - Windows 11 Pro 25H2 -- LR-Classic 15 - Photoshop 27 - Nik Collection 8 - PureRAW 5 - Topaz Photo

The first suspect would be the video driver. Try updating to the latest Studio driver from the NVidia website. On installation choose advanced options and clean install. That way you remove remnants of the old driver. Do not install additional components such as GeForce Experience. It is for gaming and is not needed for Photoshop.

If restarts continue, check Windows reliability monitor (type reliability in the Windows search bar) to see what process components are causing the shut down.

Hi, thanks for your support. I formatted the entire PC and installed everything from scratch, but the problem persisted. Finally, I ran it as an administrator, and it worked without issues. However, I still don't understand why this error occurs because if I run it normally, the entire PC restarts.

I'll keep looking for a solution, and I appreciate any other suggestions you might have. Thank you.

Hard restarts are caused by a failing driver or failing/overheating hardware. An application cannot cause that. It can crash or freeze, but not bring the whole system down. There are sandboxes and insulating layers to prevent that.

What Photoshop can do is trigger it.
