Question

Photoshop's Vertical Rulers are a different Length than Horizontal Rulers

I have just noticed that the units in the vertical rulers in photoshop are a different length than the horizontal rulers. For example, in a 14x11 inch image at 300 ppi, if I zoom at 29% I can literally measure my screen with a real-life ruler and see that the horizontal inches correspond precisely with the real-life ruler but the vertical inches do not. The vertical inches are longer than the horizontal inches. My pixels are square, fyi.

I asked Adobe tech support about this and they said that every version they checked did the same thing. They concluded that it was "by design" though they were at a loss to explain it.

WHY? Why on Earth would this be the case? I use Photoshop for illustrations that are meant to be printed and it is totally inconvenient to not be able to preview the actual aspect ratio of my art. There is a NOTICEABLE stretching effect. I hate it. Make it go away. Please.

I am experiencing the same ruler display issue: vertical ruler displays longer than horizontal ruler  -- which distorts the document that I'm working on.  (This didn't happen in my previous downloaded version of  Photoshop 2021.) Has this flaw been resolved? It's maddening! Truly not acceptable.

Our sample set is extremely small but could this be a Windows vs Mac thing?

Possibly, but the tech did confirm that they saw the same thing. It's happening on my much newer PC. My iMac doesn't do it but it's a dinosaur and uses an older version of Photoshop.

I'm not able to replicate the issue.

I just dug out a ruler and measured a square in Photoshop 2022 on a MacBook Pro laptop. It's perfectly square for me.

Could this be a monitor thing?

@Sallie112 check your monitor resolution to confirm its not slightly stretching your screens.
