Question

Photoshop setting default save location?

I'm setting up a networked Windows XP computer with Photoshop CS5 but I can't seem to find a way to set a default location for files to be saved. I would like to have it so that when a user goes to "save as" it directs the user to a specific folder and not just the general C: drive. Does anyone know how I can do this ? I can't seem to find the option in Photoshop. Thanks.

    It's an OS thing.

And be aware you may have problems if the destination is on a network drive.

Photoshop is a standalone on this system and all network drives are mapped on the startup. I don't see how that would effect there being a way to set a network drive as a default save location or setting any drive as a save location. Still thanks for throwing out some ideas. Anyone else have any suggestions ?

Photoshop goes out of its way to remember the last location you've saved things in.

There's one configuration item that sets whether Photoshop remembers where you opened a file, or separates the remembered folder from which a file was opened from the remembered default for saving.  That configuration item is in the Edit - Preferences - File Handling dialog and is called [ ] Save As to Original Folder.

I'm afraid there's no way to establish what you want as a permanent default.  You could uncheck the above setting then actually save a file to the location you'd like to set as default.  That way the user will be presented with the proper default the first time they use Photoshop.  You can hope that the user will continue to save there.
