Question

Photoshop showing continuous beach ball after 2 mins

I wonder if anyone can suggest what might be causing this.

Each time I open Photoshop and, regardless of what I am doing, it goes into a continuous spinning beach ball and needs to be force quit. I have tried this with all other apps closed and still the same problem.

I have plenty of room on the Scratch Disk. The PS app, the files I am using and the Mac OS are on all the same drive (an external SSD).

I have checked the dimensions in the files I am trying to use and all show the same type (pixels) of dimensions.

A few weeks ago I deleted the 'brushes.psp' file from the PS settings folder as I was having delays in opening PS and that problem was solved immediately and doesn't seem to have returned. Even now, the app opens quickly but then, as I say, it goes cactus after a couple of minutes.

Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated. I'm pretty good at designing in PS but I have no idea what to do when problems like this pop up.

Thanks so much....Chloe

Try resetting your Photoshop preferences. Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) immediately after launching Photoshop. You will be prompted to delete the current settings.

(Mac OS only) Open the Preferences folder in the Library folder*, and drag the Adobe Photoshop CS Settings folder to the Trash.

This action only affects the items found in the preferences dialog box. Numerous program settings are stored in the Adobe Photoshop Preferences file, including general display options, file-saving options, performance options, cursor options, transparency options, type options, and options for plug‑ins and scratch disks. Brushes (and lots of other setting) are not affected by the above instructions for deleting preferences. You may wish to make a screen capture of the settings in the Preferences dialog to reset them prior to deleting of this file.

*To manually delete Photoshop preferences:
Quit Photoshop.
Navigate to Photoshop's Preferences folder:
macOS: Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings
Windows 10: Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings

Note:
The user Library folder is hidden by default on macOS. To access files in the hidden user Library folder, see How to access hidden user library files.

Drag the entire Adobe Photoshop [Version] Settings folder to the desktop or somewhere safe for a back-up of your settings

Hey Digi Dog!!

So sorry for not responding earlier but I set this query to email when someone replies but I didn't get anything.

Thanks so much for the suggestions. I'll try them a little later when I finish the things I am working on. I'll be sure to let you know how I go.

Thanks so much again.
