Photoshop: small brush cursor crosshairs block view while drawing

Question

Does anyone know how to remove the crosshairs from displaying while using small Photoshop brushes? The crosshairs block the view of detailed work and make painting very difficult. The only work-around I've found is to zoom in close, but this gets time consuming and slows my production down considerably.

I use the command + or - to zoom on the keyboard, it's just that I would not need to zoom at all if the cursor didn't block my work.

I don't want to be zooming at all! I want to just paint like you can in Sketchbook Pro or Painter, but I don't want to have to switch programs to paint. It would just be so easy if Photoshop gave the option of removing the crosshairs in the preferences. I can't believe they don't care enough about this problem to fix it.

Well, there are brush display controls in Preferences, but when you have a tiny brush, none of these will accomplish what you are looking for:

Let's look closer at your existing workaround—how are you zooming in? (Maybe we can help you do it more efficiently.) A larger, HiDPI display might also be beneficial.
