Photoshop smudge not working along a path

Question

Photoshop V25. When I attempt to apply the smudge brush along a path, instead of using the selected smudge brush,,,, Photoshop applies the art history brush. I've tried on raw, tiff and jpegs but none work. If I smudge without the path it uses the correct/selected smdge settings ?

That was reported for photoshop 2023 (ps ver 24) as well:

If instead of using the Stroke Path dialog, have the path active with the Smudge Tool selected, then pressing

the Enter key should stroke the path with the Smudge Tool.
