Adobe Photoshop Version: 23.4.2 20220711.r.603 aa147b3 x64 regularly freeezes PC when opening simple jpeg.  Only started since upgrade to Windows 11 - a known error with a fix scheduled?

See if resetting the Photoshop preferences helps.

How much RAM and spare hard disk capacity do you have?

Consider installing the previous version of Photoshop until the issue with the current version is resolved.

Thanks for prompt response.  I have reset preferences and freed up some space on C: drive (shifted to D: drive).  If it freezes again, I will regress Photoshop version as you suggest.  Thanks again.

Hi Robin,

Thanks for reaching out. We're sorry for the trouble with Photoshop. We're here to help.

Could you please share the system info of Photoshop from Help > System info > Copy & paste into a text document > upload to Creative Cloud files (https://assets.adobe.com/files) and share with us? Have you re-installed Photoshop after the upgrade to Windows 11? Is there an error or pop-up when Photoshop freezes?

Try this to ensure Photoshop does not recognize any old operating system files.

  • Uninstall Photoshop from Creative Cloud (Keep Preferences if prompted)

Go to the location of the preference folder mentioned below and rename it to backup.

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html

  • Windows 10/11: Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings
  • You can press Press the Windows key > Enter 'Run' > Enter '%APPDATA%\Adobe
  • Rename the Adobe Photoshop folder by adding a .old at the end. (Adobe Photoshop 2022 > Rename > Adobe Photoshop 2022. old), you can later restore these preferences if needed.(https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html)
  • Restart the computer.
  • Apply any pending updated to the Windows OS & the graphics cards from the respective manufacturer's driver managers.
  • Re-install Photoshop from Creative Cloud.

These changes will give a fresh start to Photoshop as a fresh install.

Let us know if it works.

Thanks!

Hi Sameer - system info here: https://shared-assets.adobe.com/link/ef38c307-5a93-43ae-51d1-c7266d5c02c8

Photoshop not re-installed since Windows 11 uipgrade.

No errors or pop-ups - complete freeze - even the cursor disappears.  No response to CTRL/ALT/DEL - only solution is ON/OFF switch.  Re-install will take a while longer - will confirm when done.

Regards

Robin

Hi there,

Thanks for sharing this insight.

You have two graphics processors. Intel 630 Integrated GPU & the discrete/dedicated high performance Nvidia 1660 Ti. Set the default GPU for Photoshop to Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti by following step 7 in this article: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-gpu-graphics-card.html

Let us know if this helps,
Thanks!

Done, thanks.  The freeze is intermittent, but so far, no re-occurrence.
