Photoshop tools that use 'brushes' are leaving a streak.

I am an experienced PS user, and for the past 5 months I have been having an issue with tools using a brush (healing, remove, painting, clone, selection, masking, etc.). The tool leaves a streak from the left to the point of the brush. At first I could uninstall and reinstall PS using the cloud app, but this no longer works, and I am quite frustrated. 

I am using version 26.10.0 on a PC Win 11 64 (update 24H2, KB5064081\26100.5074), gb ram, and a NVIDEA GeForce RTX 4070 Super graphics card. 

 

I have seen a similar post from 2020 describing the same/similar issue, but no solution other than regressing to an earlier version of PS was offered.

 

Any ideas??

    Even a screen shot would help.  Make it full resolution showqing entire workspace with layers panel visible.

    I assume the artefact becomes part of the layer, and does not disappear when you save the image?

    Are you using a tablet, and if yes, does this happen just when using the tablet, or also when using the mouse?

     

    Are you using the Game Ready or Studio driver for the GPU?  The Studio Driver works best with Photoshop, but if you are using the Game Ready driver, I believe it isa best to do a clean reinstall of the driver.  I'd have to research how to do this.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

    You can see it best when painting on a layer mask thumbnail. I am using the studio driver for the GPU> I have not tried saving an image with the issue. I'll post a screen shot the next time it occurs. I did another reinstall, so it will take a couple of days for it to reoccur.

    Mike, I am sorry to be difficult, but I am seeing some brush strokes on a white background, and not understanding what shouldn't be there?  The more information you can give, the better the chance of a fix.  Screen shots are going to help, but you need to point out where/what the issue is?

     

    I'm thinking that if this is a GPU problem, then if you save the image or refresh the screen, the artefact will no longer be there.  Is that the case?

    You need to help us out here.

     

    I have read through the thread again and found this line:

     

    'The issue with the screen shot is that I clicked on a spot, and it painted in a streak toward the upper left, no matter what color I am using - and the streak is always in the same direction angle originating from where I first click the brush'

     

    So you click once but don't move the mouse, and a brush stroke appears towards the top left corner.  Is that right?

     


    That is correct. I click once and don't move the mouse. The brush stroke always goes in the same direction. If I refresh it remains. If I save, it saves the streak.If I close the file, and reopen or load another image and try again I get the same result. If I close PS, and reopen an image, it recurrs. If I reboot before launching PS again the bug disapppears for a few days. Another note - it does not matter what size the image. It is now recurring once a week.

    It could be a gpu issue, but I upgraded the gpu and migrated to Win 11 last Nov., and I am using the latest gpu driver.

    Thanks for reaching out. If possible, could you share a screen recording of the issue so we can take a closer look?

    As a first step, I’d recommend resetting your Photoshop preferences, that often helps clear up unusual issues. If that doesn’t do the trick, could you also share your System Info? You can find it in Photoshop under Help > System Info. Just copy the info into a text file and attach it to your reply, or share it via Google Drive, WeTransfer, or any other file-sharing service you prefer.
