Photoshop very slow after recent update...

After the update to photoshop 25 , its become so slow its unusable. Everything lags; brushes, lasso tool, transform and crop is so choppy its a complete guessing game, typing text, transforming text; the whole software has become so slow.

Im on windows 10 with an nvidia graphics 530, 48gigs of ram; thought maybe it was the outdated gpu so I ugraded to an nvidia gt1030 with no luck. Tried reinstalling with no luck. Still slow. No other software, including lightroom, is having issues on the computer. Everything else runs smooth. Even sampled affinity photo and that runs fine on the computer. This seems isolated to Photoshop.

Ive tried all the suggestions here in teh search box; ie; checking the "use gpu" in preferences, adjusting cache size, increasing ram available to photoshop, and no luck. It remains laggy.

For me compelling reason get 25.x are all the new AI tools which would speed up my workflow by a lot.

So, it look like I’m getting a new laptop Afterall, sure there isn’t anything else I can try?

@Radoslaw22513635zjm1 welcome to the world of software improvements. The system requirements increase with each upgraded version year. LR and PS are different softwares and have different requirements. The two do not conflate.

There does become an eventuality that upgrading hardware to keep up with software may be required. That being said, unless there is some compelling reason to upgrade to 25.x there is no reason you can't keep using 23.x on this system.

Thanks for looking into my issue,

I get that my hardware is not the newest. Still, it can run 23.5.5 just fine. However, installing the latest version 25.2 results in big performance hit. Actually, ANY version above 23.5.5 acts like that.

Strange since other adobe apps like Lightroom Classic and Camera raw (latest versions) runs smooth.

It feels that I am missing something, some setting perhaps. Performance difference is night and day between those two versions. Please take a look:

I am not working with large files either, JPG used in examples above is only 4mb.

I followed instructions You provided and made sure that photoshop and sniffer are using GTX 1650, both in Nvidia panel and windows Graphics Settings. Scratch diskspace is above 130 GB now.

Any more ideas? Or am I looking at buying a new laptop?

@Radoslaw22513635zjm1 a few things working against you:

1. You have two GPUs one underpowered (Intel) and your main one (GTX 1650). Here’s how to resolve:

2. You only have 79 GB scratch disk space - this can slow down PS as you work and run out of disk space. I would have at least 100 GB starting or more if you intend to do heavier PS loads.

3. Your processor is on the slower side compared to other systems we see on here running current PS. It's not bad just not as fast as others. Combine that with 1 and 2 issues and you could be seeing significant lags.
