Plotter Paper Sizes Not Available

Hi,

 

I am trying to print from Photoshop to a HP Designjet 800 plotter.  I am unable to select the loaded media size.

 

I received an error when I first tried to print.  See attachment.

 

I eventually noticed that the Printer Settings dialog box still had my default printer in the window title block.  See attachment.  

 

I can print to the plotter with pretty much any other software.  We did just upgrade to Windows 10 from Win7...  I tried printing from Windows Photos.  But it doesn't allow me to select "actual size" when printing.

 

Any ideas?

I am trying to print to a HP Designjet 800 plotter.  I have been doing so from various other applications and PS Elements 11 on Windows 7.  We upgraded to Windows 10.  I installed Photoshop on it.  If I select the Designjet, I only get the "standard"/typical personal and office media choices, not ANSI C, ANSI D, etc.

 

Is there a way to update a driver or something so that PS will give me those options?

 

I saved my file as a .jpg and tried to print with Windows Photos.  But there isn't an "actual size" option.  It does have the ANSI paper sizes, though...  I need to print that actual size, as it is a pattern. 

 

I wonder what other software Win10 has for pictures.?.?

Hi, Once you get past Photoshop's "print" dialog to "printer settings" you are looking at the HP driver software - not part of Photoshop.
It's confusing, I know, that this driver software may present different options when opened via different software's print function.
[FYI, Avoid Windows "Photos" as it has no colour management features so cannot display images accurately.]

 

I'd be looking under media size/custom to set your required paper size if it's not already listed.


It is perplexing, though, that an HP printer driver is not showing its own printers full range of options under "print settings". 

 

In the screenshot below, I have opened an HP driver via Photoshop/print - print settings, as you can see there is an option to Manage Custom Sizes at the bottom of the list of sizes. Here you can add the paper size you need.

If my suggestions here do not help you, I suggest you first download and reinstall the HP driver software (get it at HP) - then your next port of call should be HP support.

I really don't know what's going on.  I believe it is a Windows 10 issue.?.?  I can mess around and somehow get the actual HP 800 Printer Setup window to show instead of the HP 8710.  I choose a ANSI C size, etc.  When I click the print button, I get a message saying the image is too big for the media chosen (something to that effect).  I say OK since I have a 24" roll and a 17" image.  Then, it prints out on the 8710!!!

 

If I use IrfanView to print the image to the plotter, it gets lost in cyberspace.  It doesn't appear in the print queue for the plotter.  It does print (incorrectly) via Windows Photos.  So, we will have to try to figure this all out.
