Question

PNG exporting with Black Background

I've been trying to export my logos with a transparent background, but while they show up transparent on some platforms, on others, it appears with a black background.

The logos were drawn with Procreate, so I thought it was because of that. I then exported it as a .psd file then dragged all the layers except the background into a new .psd file that has a true "Transparent Background" canvas. Images are in already in RGB. No matter if I "save as" or "export," when I import these .png files into things like Google Drive or InShot, a black background appears. Sometimes, even if it appears to be transparent digitally, it'll print out with a black background. I would have to print a PDF exported and made from Photoshop in order to use the logo even just in a corner.

My Photoshop is up to date. It was updated at the beginning of December. If anyone has any idea what I could do, my frustration and I would greatly appreciate it!

In the top menu, go to Image -> Mode -> RGB. Then, export again. Worked for me.

This was the solution for me. The image mode was on "Indexed" changing it to RGB solved it.

Is it possible that your color box is reversed? The on located in the tools panel to the left of the screen.

How are you saving PNG files from Photoshop?

Avoid exporting indexed/8bit PNG files, because those might not be supported in certain software and the transparent background will display as black, or in some cases an 8bit PNG file may not display correctly at all.

Lately, the situation with PNG export from Photoshop is excacerbated due to the developers deciding that fully transparent 8bit indexed PNG files are no longer allowed to be exported, and only 1bit transparency is supported in this case.

In any case, absolutely make certain that you are exporting full colour 24bit PNG files with full transparency.

One thing is certain: Photoshop is not adding black color to transparent areas. Why you see them? Because certain platform or software is set to show black color instead of transparency checkerboard or whatever color is background color of page which is displaying file.

If I can understand you are stating that printed material also has black background instead of some other color (white paper color for example). Where and how do you print your files?

Guys, it's definitely problem of the Photoshop. When I save the image with transparent background Ps adds black. Every platform as well as all the devices show this file with black. Except Photoshop. Once again: how can we avoid it?

Thanks.

The only way is perhaps that you have set Black for Artboard background color but in that case you must have visual feedback on your screen. Can you reopen exported file in Photoshop and confirm there is black background?
