Hi.  I am having an issue I hope someone can shed a little light on.  When I create a graphic that has a canvas size of 5" x 5" and I go to export it as a PNG or JPG, the file that is exported saves at 20" x 20" (or there about).  I thought this was supposed to have been resolved with he new update, which I have updated.  I am running on windows 10.  How do I get it to export at its true size?

When I export it, it looks exactly like your screen shot.

Hi,

the amount of pixels is the same. When you export in PNG or JPG the resolution is set on 72 ppi, so the physical dimension of the image increases.

Digital images don't have physical dimensions, only pixel dimensions.

Physical dimensions (in inches) can be calculated by dividing the pixel dimensions by the ppi (pixels per inch).

Photoshop will do the math for you, and will let you use physical dimensions when creating a document.

I assume that you created a 5" x 5" document at 300 ppi, which is 1500 x 1500 pixels.

When you export or use Save for web, the ppi value is stripped out, since exporting is mainly for web/screen use, which does not require a ppi value.

When you open the exported file, Photoshop has to assign a ppi value, which happens to be 72.

And a 1500 x 1500 file will print at 20.833 x 20.833" when the ppi is set to 72.

To preserve the 300 ppi value, use Save As instead of Export.

Then as mentioned above try to save it SAVE AS or use Export AS Function.

Hi

When you export as a PNG it is exported with no ppi metadata. So at that point it is just pixel dimensions.

When you import an image with no ppi metadata Photoshop assigns an arbitary 72ppi so that it can calculate the print size.

Nothing changes in your actual image
