I recently updated Photoshop 2024 to version 25.9.1 on my M3 Mac running Sonoma 14.6.1. All my Canon printer profiles are now missing from the drop-down dialogue box. They are located in Library/ColorSync/Profiles. How do I get them to appear in the dialogue box?
Any help appreciated.

Hey, Richard! I'll move this thread to Photoshop Ecosystem Community as this issue is related to Photoshop.
Please try these steps and let us know if helped.
1. You can try the troubleshooting steps mentioned here: https://adobe.ly/3Xe2775
2. Download Canon and install the relevant Canon printer driver software.
3. That process normally installs the needed ICC media profiles.
4. Look right through the [Print: "Photoshop Manages Color"] pull down profile list
Note that when you "add" the printer in System Preferences, do not select (under "use" )the Airprint option if you see it there.
5. Please check this link for more details about the missing profile in the printer: https://adobe.ly/4dQxMRG;
Regards,
Shivani

@sprinklr-integration-user that’s right - great answer - a good way to fix this is pretty likely to be reinstalling the Canon driver which will reinstall the Canon ICC profiles. (downloaded online, not installed [added] from within MacOS. )
After reinstalling the Canon driver, it's good to restart the Mac
Also to avoid checking Airprint when "adding" the printer. See below
@Richard Malpas I too recommend you do not select "Airprint"
go to Canon online and download the printer drivers yourself and install.
Do not let the Mac install the printer driver for you.
In System Preferences / Printers - - - , when adding the connected printer
[i.e. click the padlock, enter your password and click the “+” button]
There under "use" do not select "Airprint", but, rather, manually set "use” to the printer name, which will then call on the manufacturer’s own software rather than the default Apple driver (that’s based on Gimp Print / Gutenprint, which misses out some printing options such as specific manufacturers media names).
I hope this helps

Thanks Shivani and Neil for your responses, but the problem has not been resolved. I renamed the Profiles folder (Library/Colorsync/Profiles) to Profiles2 and created a new (empty) Profiles folder. I downloaded the non-Canon profiles from the Canon site and copied them to the Profiles folder. These now appear in the drop-down list of printer profiles in PS. What didn't appear were the profiles for the Canon papers (Pro Platinum, Pro Luster etc.). I downloaded the driver software for my printer (Canon Pro-10S) and followed the on-screen instructions to install it and then restarted my Mac, but it made no difference, the profiles for the Canon papers still do not appear.
You refer to System Preferences which I don't have. I do have System Settings, which I presume is the same thing. The profile for my printer does not include an Airprint option - I don't think my model of printer is designed to use Airprint and, in any case, I've always used it as a tethered printer.
Thanks for the links Shivani, but 3Xe2775 refers to printing problems which I don't have (I haven't got that far yet!) and 4dQxMRG returned a 404 error.
I can print successfully using the 'Printer Manages Color' option and Canon papers but I want to get this resolved. Any thoughts on the next step?
Regards
Richard

do those "missing" profiles make it to your 'Mac HD name'/Library./colorSync/Profiles folder
did you drag them too or did the printer driver installer add them?

yes, we did mean System Settings, that naming is dependent on MacOS version.
even tethered printers can have the "use: AirPrint" option, in any case it's good yours doesn’t, because even when printing tethered (connected via a cable) that "use-Airprint" option in System Settings / Printers points to a non-OEM driver (so, non-Canon in your case) .
I hope this helps

Hi Neil
Hi Neil, thanks for your reply. I used the installer but the profiles have not appeared in the Profiles folder. The only change is the addition of a sub-folder called Displays, that has a single imac icc profile in it. When you say 'drag them to' where are they dragged from?
Thanks for your help
Richard

which installer? Canon? I seriously doubt that IT installed an Imac profile.

you wrote:

drag / copy - largely interchangeable terms
Canon probably places its own profiles hidden away somewhere like Epson do - the Epson driver can find them there but occasionally Photoshop cannot meaning they have to be copied, see below .
maybe this will offer a clue as to where they might be:
Epson printer profiles are missing in Photoshop manages color in the print dialog (Mac)
To use "Photoshop Manages Color" properly (to make accurate prints) you need access to the printer manufacturer's paper specific profiles, since you need to select the relevant paper profile in that dialog.
Using "Printer Manages Color" should work for Epson’s own papers, as long as the printer driver is correctly installed.
Printer Manages Color [based on the media type selected] calls upon ICC printer profiles from a different installed folder*
[*usually a hidden one, this is so they don't get deleted inadvertently, more on that and how to find them below].
Epson ICC printer profiles may be missing in Photoshop after updating macOSX. This issue started with Mojave.
https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-and-macosmojave.html#epson-printer-profiles-missing
Adobe’s tips:-
To resolve this issue, reset the printing system in your Mac's system preferences and then add your Epson printer again.
When you select Photoshop manages color in the “print” dialog, the “printer profile” dropdown should now provide you with a list of all the ICC printer profiles on your system. If not please read on.
The Epson installer puts them in hidden folders, but normally Photoshop can access them via a hidden link.
You may be able to find the profiles manually in the folder hierarchy
Are you working on a PC? If so, you may need help from Epson's support team.
Here are some Mac tips for when Photoshop can't find the Epson profiles:
I had to search for these myself on a client site once, took me quite a while and a lot of head scratching. But it means I now know how to find them
Basically, the printer profiles are in a folder hidden away in the system “library”
Navigate to
“Your hard disk name”/library/ printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/ICCProfiles/ [hidden inside a “package”]
[Not in the “your username”/library/ ]
Screenshot below
Inside the ICCProfiles folder (see above) is another folder containing the printer name, e.g: Epson Stylus Pro 4900_4910.profiles
If you right click [or ‘control’ click] it and select "show package contents"
A contents folder appears
Now look inside that
folder and you’ll find the ”resources" folder.
see screenshot below
These are the icc profiles which used within the Epson driver [e.g. when you select Photoshop’s 'printer manages colour' option],
DO NOT DELETE OR MOVE THEM. It’s OK to copy of course.
SO - don't drag to move them as this actually removes them from the original folder
You can copy to your normal ICC profiles folder which is in the system library
[ computer name/hard disk name/Library/Colorsync/Profiles ]
Restart Photoshop, can you now see the profiles you copied across in Photoshop’s print dialog under "Photoshop manages color"?
I hope this helps

@Richard Malpas Hi Neil, sorry for the delay in replying. The dialogue box is ‘Photoshop manages colour’.
OK thanks for letting me know, that’s what I'd presumed

Yes, that's the expected result.
so, the profiles now do appear in that Photoshop manages colour dropdown?
You're OK - all fixed?
I hope this helps
