Printing from photoshop CS 5

Using CS 5 on High Sierra and trying to print with an Epson Artisan 1430 from a MacBook Pro (late 2011) . I can print using the print one copy only in photoshop, but using the print settings box causes photoshop to crash. Any solutions out there. I know it's an older photoshop, only started happening when I updated from Sierra. I have updated the drivers for the printer.

Is your Photoshop CS5 updated to 12.0.4?

You can see the version from within Photoshop by going to Help>System Info and looking at the top line for the Adobe Photoshop Version.

If it's not you can try Help>Updates from within Photoshop CS5.

Another thing to try is resetting the Photoshop preferences:

Have tried to download 12.04 but I get an update failed message. Sadly resetting preferences didn't work either.

I seem to be out of options.

Did you check what version your photoshop CS5 is?

If it's 12.1 aka CS5.1 then you don't need the update.

Here is the 12.0.4 updater

Then follow the intructions here under Creative Suite 5.5, 5, and 4 to install the 12.0.4 update

You can get the AdobePhotoshop12-4-mul-AdobeUpdate.dmg from the Adobe FTP server

by following the below directions:

Click on your desktop, click on Go then Connect to Server and paste in

ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/photoshop/mac/cs5

then check Connect as Guest

You want the AdobePhotoshop12-4-mul-AdobeUpdate.dmg

Have just tried that and I received an error message "AdobePatchinstaller" can't be opened. You should eject the disk image.

Just read your other link to install, I see I have to drag Adobe Patchinstaller to the terminal window. Sorry for my error, 1st time installing this way. Thanks for your patience.

Sorry to be a nuisance, tried to install the patch exactly as you described but fails everytime. Can only assume there is something on my computer that causes the failure. I can can see it running but then i get an error message and suggests i contact support who then tell me it's not supported and suggest i update my system etc etc. If you have any other suggestion it would be appreciated, but if there are no other options, thank you for your time.

Perhaps try a thorough reset of Photoshop preferences?

(read this entire post before acting please)

Resetting restores Photoshop's internal preferences, which are saved when Photoshop closes.

If they become corrupt then various issues can occur.

You may want to backup your settings and custom presets, brushes & actions before restoring Photoshop's preferences.

It may even be time to reinstall Photoshop.

However that may be a Catch 22 because Adobe, I fear, have very likely disabled the activation server - so, beware attempting a reinstall.

IF you decide to upgrade to Photoshop CC - to suport High Sierra you'd need an old version of CC.

There's a link to the 2018 downloads on that page, but that's as far back as they go. Jim, who runs that site, has a good relationship with Adobe, so they are happy that he makes those versions available, and as in your case, there will be a lot of people with operating systems and/or hardware, that are unable to run current versions. Folk on here say Jim is a nice personl.

It's a useful site to be aware of. Some of the e-books he has available for free, are excellent. I especially like the design books. Jim catalogs and makes available links to all of the MAX workshops after the event, which must take him ages.

Unfortunately, that's most likely the only solution for your printing problem is to install the 12.0.4 update.

One of the photoshop cs5 updates included a fix for print crashing and since 12.0.4 is the newest and has all the fixes of previous updates that's the one to install.

If in photoshop you go to Help>System Info can you post the contents?

Hi it's now working as I deleted and reset all the preferences, which you may have mentioned at one point. Did try it but no success however I removed them manually and the problem was resolved. Thanks again for your time and advice.

That's good to hear.

From your system info you posted it looks like photoshop cs5 was being run in the 32 Bit mode?

Is that because of some non 64 bit plugins you have?

That really limits the ram available to photoshop so maybe that was causing the printing problem.

Resetting the preferences should switch photoshop cs5 back to running 64 bit.

I changed it to 32 bit hopefully thinking that would resolve the problem. Didn’t need to once I had reset the preferences. I’m now back in 64 bit. Thanks for your response.
