Question

Problem of opening video files in PS

I have PS 2024 on Mac.  I tried to import the video files from my Nikon Z6iii for editing.  PS imports both the MOV and MP4 files.   When I play the MOV files, it does not show any video, only audio comes.   There is no such problem with MP4 files.   I would appreciate it if anyone could shed some light on this issue and help resolve it.

Change the format on the camera. According to the Z6III press release, the camera can record 6K N-RAW and ProRes video. I doubt that Photoshop can handle either of those. You might need Final Cut, Premiere, or DaVinci Resolve to work with those files.

True, it is easy to forget that Photoshop is a pixel image editor, with a bit of video functionality included, and does not pretend to be a full blown video editor.

Hi,

Both mp4 amd mov files are 'containers' and within them is a video encoded to a specific format (as well as encoded audio). The mp4 is likely to be H.264 which can be played in Photoshop, but the MOV file could be encoded with a format that is not directly readable by Photoshop. You may need to check your camera settings.

In the meantime, you could use a video convertor, such as the well used and well respected Handbrake, to convert the MOV files to a readable format such as mp4 in H.264 format (although that does not support 4K video)
