Problem with action

Hi all,

I recorded an action in Photoshop. All commands seems to work fine but "select/modify/contract" and "feather" a message saying "command not available" pops up when I play the action.

I added a default value when I recorded those commands, and I want the same amount every time I play the action.

Is there any solution to this issue?

Thanks in advance!

Is there an active selection when the action errors?

Please post a screenshot with the error message and action panel visible and the step that errors fully expanded in action list mode (not button mode) and also with the image canvas and Photoshop interface visible.

We need to see the entire interface, not crops, as I can't see/verify that a selection is active!

How did you record the action step for the 3268 x 6844 px selection? The hint shows object selection, so was this the object selection tool? Could you record a marquee selection instead using the desired dimensions?

Yes, the selection was created using object selection.

The goal is to select the floor in studio portraits in order to remove dust, hair, etc using "dust and scratches". this is a set of commands I repeat for every image I have to clean the floor.

the selection should be different for every image, selected trough object selection. but "contract  selection" and "feather" should remain the same. Then Copy the selected pixels on a new layer, and apply dust and scratches (I added a dialog box option because usually I have to adjust values for every particular image). And last flatten the image.
I hope this explanation help you understand what this action was created for. Let me know if you need further details and thank you for all the help

Thank you for the explanation, it helps me understand the situation.

However, does the action actually create a selection on a different image?

The error would appear to be that there is no selection, however, without actually seeing a screenshot of the entire interface when the error is triggered it's hard to say.

Yes, every time I play the action the selection is different because every portrait is different, that's why I'm using select object to select the floor.

I think I figured why is not working, and that's because I have to select the floor in every image, and there's no way photoshop would know that the floor is what I want to select in the first place and that's why there's no active selection when I play the action.
Once the floor is selected then the rest could be automated, is that correct?

That is what I have been saying, yes, you can't contract or feather a selection if there is no selection.

I haven't tried, but does this "allow tool recording" work with object selection:

https://helpx.adobe.com/au/photoshop/using/recording-tools-actions-cs6.html#:~:text=Photoshop%20lets...

You might be able to set rulers to either % or px and record selecting the lower area.

Otherwise, you should be able to record an action using the select subject command, invert and add a graduated mask revealing the lower areas.
