Problems opening PSB files

One of my work colleagues was trying to open a PSB file in CC, about 3GB, takes ages, it was opening for something like 10 minutes plus. I never have any problems but I don't ever save as a PSB file, either a PSD or Tiff image with layers. Storage is no problem 3 TB on hard drive, we have great archiving storage which is done regularly. 24GB memory installed, correct RAM allocated to Photoshop. Anybody got any ideas & benefits of using PSB, is it purely compression?? The designs are bedding designs so 200x200cm, some photographic with lots of layers, thanks in advance.

PSB  is needed for any file greater than the 2GB limit of PSD ( or the TIFF size limit of 4GB)    So a smaller pixel size but with many layers will often require PSB.  10 minutes though does sound excessive!

You can choose to save PSD and PSB with no compression, in preferences file handling. That takes up more disk space but can be quicker to open as it does not need to be decompressed.

Hi. PSB is a large document format for files above 30000 x 30000 px. I am not sure why its taking THAT long tho. But that will most certainly depend on processing power.

Thank you for reply, I will look at the processor power.
