Question

Program Error

I have several jpg images that when I attempt to open in PS 24.1.0 receive an error message  "Could not complete your request because of a program error.". My research says to use the User-diagnostics plug in but that seems to pertain to an earlier version of PS? The learn how to fix icon that appears with the program error window doesn't provide the info I need to resolve. Any thoughts? Running windows 10

Hi @Heirloom Bob can you try this. Quit Photoshop then right-click the .exe icon and open Photoshop as an Administrator. Then try opening your jpgs. Any difference?

Bob, maybe try copying a few of those Jpegs to the main hard disk then see if the issue persists.

I hope this helps

Maybe also try From the hard drive to drag and drop on the photoshop icon.

Hi @Heirloom Bob, sorry to hear about the problem! Sounds strange. Is it only happening with this certain batch of jpg images, or with any jpg you try to open? Are you opening them from within Photoshop or by clicking on the file? Where are the files located? On a local or external drive, or on the cloud? If you try to open them from Bridge, does the same error message pop up? Do you want to post one or DM me with the file and I'll see if I have the same issue? I'm running Windows 10, Photoshop 24.1 Release.

Not all jpg's just some of them.

Opening from Explorer and jpg's then open on PS.

External drive

Same issue in Bridge but i thought you were onto something there. 🙂

One of the images i am having issues with is attached.

Thanks, @Heirloom Bob I got the Dropbox link. I can't open them either. Just a WAG, but based on the file names, these look like they could be Nikon Disk ID files that were converted or saved to JPG the wrong way (DSC04681.JPG and DSC04681.JPG). I tried several ways to open them and used two different repair tools for fixing corrupted JPG files, but I couldn't open them. Each file is about 8.5 MB. How did you acquire the images? Do you know what type of content or picture they are supposed to contain? Can you go back to an original source? Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you on this one!
