Project didn't save progress

I had something that I've been working on on-and-off for a couple days. Decide to finish it up today. Spend the rest of the day doing so, takes about 6 hours. Up until today, everything has been saving just fine.

I just opened it up again to make a few finishing touches, and all my progress from the day is gone. 6 hours worth of work.

I know I saved it. I got a "PS will close automatically once saving is complete". I've gotten this message before without issue and nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

But this time, reopening it, I'm back to where I was before. Needless to say I'm extremely pissed off. Is there any way to get my progress back?

If it helps at all, a few notes

-I'm on mac

-I save everything to Adobe Creative Cloud files

-Autosave was never on. I always save manually. Turning on autosave won't get my progress back so please don't bother mentioning it.

More notes - Apparently I did have autosave on. Been saving manually for as long as I can remember though so whatever. I don't know if this changes anything.

I've saved much larger files before so this is not normal.

Here are my performance preferences, in case they can help people help me.
