PS 2020: layer effects on the layer folder get totally buggy

Community Beginner ,

I realised since I upgraded to PS 2020 that i can't use or render anymore layer effects on a folder full of layers. While the effects on the layers display as usual, they look totally wrong on the folder. drop shhadow, outside stroke look cropped or as if there is a mask.

The only way to go around this is to make a smart object on the folder and then activate layer effects on it. Then it works. But it's annoying. I need to work 🙂

Does anyone have the same problem?

I got a Macbook Pro 2018 15" running OS Catalina and 32 GB Ram.

Please post meaningful screenshots to illustrate the issue.

Have you tried setting

Photoshop > Preferences > Performance > Legacy Compositing

and restarting Photoshop?

I did as you said and now it works.

Thanks for the tips.

But: which such a basic tool it should work with the new engine. I mean...for real... Layer effects...so basic and it doesnt work. Don't release the update then 🙂

Thanks!

This is a user forum site we have no part in development, testing or releasing Adobe Photoshop.  Corrupt preferences files have always cause problems in Photoshop.   Adobe Bugs may be the cause of the corruptions some times.  Corrupted Preference is such a common problem Adobe Made Startup Shortcut to  reset preferences during start up, Also there is check box in Prefences to have Photoshop reset Prefences when you shut down photoshop this time.  I backup my Photoshop Prefences so I can restore mine should my prefences become corrupt.  Photoshop is not bug free most software has bugs Photoshop has quite a few. Have more than one version installed.
