Is there any stable version that everybody uses? I'm just a newbie user needing very fundamental functions, not really interested in helping them to debug their craps

Hi Christopher.  Just to put things in perspective, there are now more than 33 million people with paid for Creative Cloud subscriptions, and it is reasonable to asume that a very high percentage of them use Photoshop.  I'll add that your post is the first I have seen that mentions Photoshop freezing when changing layers.

Try resetting Preferences again, but this time do it manually

Try reinstalling, but use the Cleaner tool after uninstalling and before reinstalling.

Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner tool to solve installation problems (adobe.com)

Check your Windows 10 health.

Let us know if that makes any difference.

Try resetting the tools and/or preferences.
To restore preferences quickly using a keyboard shortcut:

Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Photoshop. You are prompted to delete the current settings. The new preferences files are created the next time you start Photoshop.
Note: Using the keyboard shortcut, preference files for custom shortcuts, workspaces, and color settings will also be reset to default.

Still, this time, when I try to change the name of a layer it froze. I tried it twice it freezes at the same operation. This happens before and after deleting the settings.
